Nexus 6P update to Android 8.0 OREO

It's my habit to remove the "-w" fastboot option from flash-all.sh before executing it.
That would do it. There are a number of fundamental changes with 8.0 in particular that may not play nice if you don't give the system an opportunity to migrate your data over (via an OTA script) or start fresh (with the "-w" fastboot flash option).

Next time you feel like manually updating without wiping your data, go for the OTA sideload option instead. :thumbsupdroid:

Thank you, good advice. I used the OTA with Android 4.x while traveling some years ago and it wiped, causing me some major problems at the time, so I've been somewhat reluctant to use the OTA method since then. Sideload sounds better.

Sideloading an OTA image is virtually identical to automatically installing an OTA with the major difference being that it's a full-block image containing the entire OS and other partitions rather than a delta OTA with only the files that changed from one version to the next. This makes it ideal for performing major version updates as well as for troubleshooting a variety of problems - but your system will need to be able to pass all the same checks as with the standard OTA (no root, stock recovery, etc.)

You might also try disabling the Camera app (Settings > Apps & notifications > App info > Camera > Disable), which will have the pleasant side-effect of removing any updates and restoring the version of the app that was included with the build you're on. You can then re-enable the app to see if that made any difference.

No luck. Because it's all of my camera apps (I think), I would have been surprised if that had worked. Appreciate all of the suggestions though!

Drat. Thanks for trying anyway. I'm afraid I've running out of additional ideas for you. :(

My 6p is so slow after the OTA. Anyone else having this problem?

Most of the performance-related problems I've seen with Oreo come down to user-installed apps - either those that haven't been updated for Oreo, or else just ones that are carrying around a lot of excess baggage for one reason or another. A factory reset is a sure way to correct the latter, but I'm afraid we're at the mercy of application developers for the former.

Good news! Just got the OTA to the stable version of O and it appears to have resolved my camera storage issues!

It would be nice if it resolved the premature shutdown issue as well, but I imagine that's too much to hope for.

ETA - Uh oh, it looks like after rooting I'm back where I started. Which makes me think there must be something screwy with my rooting process. I'll have to dig into that one.

ETA (again) - Ah, updating to the latest SuperSU seems to have resolved it! Ironically, I'd frozen updates to it after an earlier update appeared to kill my root.

Kind of off-topic now, but I decided to call Google on the battery shutdown issue. Because I originally purchased my 6P through Google and/or because I've got insurance on my phone, I'm getting an upgrade to a Pixel XL. I guess I can't complain about that. :p

The only "downside" is that Google puts a hold on your card for the amount of the new phone until they receive your old one, and I'm getting the phone (assuming I don't get a "missed delivery" notice) the day before I go out of town for a long weekend, so I guess I'll have a busy night before that. Not a great time to have a major hold on your card, but at least when I am out of town I'll have a phone that doesn't randomly conk out if the battery gets under 40%.
