I haven't used this phone in over a year because I can't charge it using a cable and using a charging pad just isn't very convenient. So now I'm trying to unroot it but I think the iffy connection via micro usb cable to my computer is affecting it. I am using wug's toolkit. First I did a reset via recovery mode. It seemed to reset it but it's still using dirty unicorn (I wasn't sure if that would be the case) and it won't unlock. I can unlock on the lock screen and it immediately locks again. So I tried wug's toolkit to unroot (despite the lock screen) and it won't work. Does the lock screen issue mean my phone is done? I don't need it as a phone, but someone wants to use it as a wifi device. I just want it unrooted so it's like when I bought it. Is there another way?

Yeah, a factory reset just wipes user data. It doesn't touch the system. You still have the same os after a factory reset.

Honestly, if you can get the cables to work I would just flash the latest factory image:
https://developers.google.com/android/images#hammerhead

This will undo anything you've done to the phone and return it to the stock os
