Calendar notifications fail

Google calendar isn't notifying me of any appointments.
The problem is with both my Samsung J5 phone and my Samsung tablet.
I have reset all my apps ( in case I had disabled something I shouldn't have).
I have set the calendar app to not be switched off by the power monitor.

What else should I do, please?
