Message retrieved when I checked for updates. How odd is that? I haven't done any modification to the machine and the tablet was bought from a certified Samsung Dealer.
Is there anything I can do? How to update it?

Thanks!

Just to save a little time ...

About the device:
- Model number: GT-N8000
- Android version: 4.1.2
- Device memory: total space:11.66GB / Available 3.55GB
- SD Card: total space: 59,45GB / available 34,42GB

Is that correct @pete stream ?

I'm hoping @ironass or @Hadron will chime in with their vast knowledge. Mine seems to be only half-vast. ;)

When it comes to Samsung I'm very much a user rather than an expert: I've a Note 10.1 (2014 model, P600) that I use for annotating pdfs, but have never seriously looked into modding it, or what problems could make the update system think it had been modded.

I guess the most basic check would be to go into the bootloader and check that it's not been unlocked at any point and check the Knox status - if the tablet was in a sealed box this should not have happened, but they've not made these for a while so I'm not taking it for granted. I did try to do this on my device on the way home, but following the instructions I found on the web for getting into the bootloader just put me into safe mode, which wasn't helpful! I mention this to show how far from an expert in Samsungs I am (will have another look later, but can't at this moment).

and check the Knox status

This is the note 10.1 original, not the 2014 edition like we both have. I don't think it had knox on it.

From Wikipedia
In October 2014 ... Approved products include Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S7, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 10.1 2014.

I did try to do this on my device on the way home, but following the instructions I found on the web for getting into the bootloader just put me into safe mode, which wasn't helpful!

It's power off, then press and hold home + volume DOWN + power until you get the warning screen, and then volume up to confirm. That puts you into download mode with the device status in the upper left.

Then you press and hold the power button until it reboots to get out of this screen.

As you can see my Knox=1 which means I'm a bad boy. ;)

My tablet is the original Note 10.1, manufactured 2013 (see below). There isn't KNOX on it as far as I can learn. Also, there's no HOME button on it.

What I found for this model is to turn off power then press and hold Volume UP + power until the logo appears, then release power only. When the recovery menu appears release the volume up button.

The rest should be the same ... volume buttons scroll and power selects. Clear your cache but do not factory reset. Then reboot.

For download mode, its probably the same thing only using the Volume DOWN + power. Not sure if it will tell you if the device has been modified there. It's worth a look.
