I am royally getting pissed about this. I have reset my timeout to 10 minutes so many times, I can get to that setting in a heart beat.

anyone else experiencing this issue?

The way I use my phone, I do NOT want the screen going black on me in 30 seconds. I do a LOT of reading and having the screen shut down is pissing me off.

Once I lock it to 10 minutes, it should stay that way until "I" change it.
My Galaxy 'S' never did that to me, not once.

My, my what a temper. :D
Anyways, I have mine set for 10 minutes and it works fine the very first time. I tried all the settings 15 seconds to 10 minutes and they all work.

Hadn't thought about the Power Saving mode effecting it, but never invoked that mode except for once just to see how it looked.

I do use Battery Doctor, but to date, it has never changed any settings, just kills background apps after the screen goes dark. I would NOT be w/o Battery Doctor. It really stretches out the battery life on any Android phone.

I'm going to have to check Battery Doctor out. I see you posted where I have a similar problem as you, but with the Dynamic Notification program. So I understand how you feel. :(

Not sure when it "fixed itself", it has not reset in the last two days.

However, when I am talking on the phone, the damn display blanks out just like my Galaxy 'S' does.... making it impossible to talk on it and field your way through a series of those stupid digital answering services that banks use, etc...

I have just made it a habit of using my Blue Tooth headset, that forces the screen display to stay on.

A follow up on this...

I use Battery Doctor and while doing some "phone internal surfing" I looked into the Exceptions sub-menu on that app. Somehow, I had over looked an option to Reset Screen Timeout to 30 seconds when going to sleep. Removed that little check mark and so far, so good...

I'm a big boy and if I want my screen to go to sleep, I will hit the 'power button' :)

These new phones have so many programmable features in them that interact with other features, it takes a lot of time to finally get them fine tuned to the "way we want them."

I have the same issue. Galaxy S7 Edge. I don't use any battery app nor any other I can find that might cause this. I set timeout to be long, maybe 10 minutes. A while later (minutes, an hour perhaps?), the screen goes off and I find it has reset to a low number - a few seconds to a few minutes.
IMHO this is a bug in Nougat 7.0

Really? because I agree with AZgl1500 . I have been trying like a bugger to keep my s6 at 10mins for months and it keeps reverting to seconds. I think it's after I charge my phone and I can only assume it's a glitch similar to the one Samsung just fixed that allowed me to finally hear my notifications of texts, emails, etc. Again... Not my ignorance, just a glitch from the manufacturer. Smugness doesn't become an "expert" on these lines, jack58, we're all just here to help one another... Not mock. So if you have anything helpful to add, please do so.

I like how you assume things!
First, I posted a smiley at the end of it:
My, my what a temper. :D
Second AZg1500 knew it too.. we've posted and chatted many times the past 4-5 years. YOU? Your new with one post ;)
Third, that post was freaking 3 years ago! Apr 26, 2014
So... don't assume things!

My my what a temper, no need to yell:) . And I'm not new, just another glitch; my profile was compromised and I had to start over. But, you're correct, this is an old Post so I do apologise for that. I was looking for a solution to an issue that started to occur on my phone, and didn't realize it was an old problem. (Hope the smiley face helps).

Actually yelling is all CAPS, so I wasn't yelling, just emphasising. Wasn't mad at all. :)

:D so... Now that that's out of the way:p , any ideas why my s6 is doing this? Constantly reverting back to a timeout of a few seconds rather than the 10 minutes I select? I don't have power savings selected, I don't see any apps overriding this, and I don't want to use the option to void the sleep function. This just started, it's never been an issue for the last year and a half. Thanks in advance. AJ

Folks,

Sorry to read some of the comments above, but it does not surprise me since I have had similar experiences. Yet, this thread seems most closely related to my problem, about the screen display repeatedly reverting to a short 20 second (or shorter) display time-out while I am reading it. I tried all the above options, battery conservation, etc., but nothing is working. Seems to be a flaw a lot of people have.

I do a lot of traveling internationally, and in between delays for meeting people, I do research with my unlocked Samsung Galaxy 7 Edge via the Internet during the many travel and meeting delays in my int'l development work (where I cannot pull out my laptop). Now we are getting better 3 or 4G settings in poor countries in Africa and Latin America, I am using my cell for work related research (while on int'l & local travel delays, and waiting on meetings, etc.) but this display time-out issue is more than annoying, it is costing me a lot of time problems that I did not have with my other phones. This display timeout/lock even happens while I am on a call in the USA, and the phone page with time-out. I tried the battery, security, and other obvious options, but I see that a lot of people have similar problems, without a simple, single fix-it option.

Any new ideas on how to fix this screen display/screen lock problem?

Many thanks

Bill E.

I am having the same problem, and tried everything. My Samsung 7 Edge keeps reverting to a 20sec screen timeout, and often seems to be over-rulled by another app that closes the screen. It has gotten to be much more than a nuisance, since I am spending time on this silly issue instead of family time or working on assignments, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have any anti virus programs on your device? Like clean sweep? I just removed all my anti virus programs and it stopped reverting! The Samsung representative told me the phone's own antivirus (the one under Device Maintenance that you can run or have have it run on a set schedule).. Hope he's right!
