Hi guys...

i have a samsung S8+.. which is waterproof.

just came back from vacation... Cozumel MX.
went snorkeling with phone in my pocket. and did some pics and vids in the water.
phone never went deeper than 3 feet. and no longer than 20 mins in water.
it did ok...

but had to wait a full day before it would accept USB Type-C plug to charge the phone.
but is fine after that wait period.

my ear speaker.. after i got back to the states and used the phone to talk...
i notice the "ear-speaker" having an issue. it rattles...
sounds like when your speaker has a rip in it... when it is set to louder or has bass sounds.

it has been about 5 days since it was in water.
do you think it could get better with time.. more drying out- 1 more week?
or has the speaker been damaged???
i do have warranty.. so i can get it fixed. but just a hassle.

the bottom speaker.. is fine... tested it...

If you took your phone snorkeling in salt water you just gave it a slow death sentence. Sea water is very corrosive to electronics, so I hope you gave it a good thorough rinse in fresh water afterwards, otherwise your USB port contacts are gonna disintegrate quickly. I'd bathe it in clean water ASAP if you haven't done it already.

And DON'T use compressed or canned air to dry the speakers!! Within each speaker is a mesh-like barrier that blocks water from entering. Hard blast of air will destroy the mesh at worst, or it will force water through the mesh and rot the speaker. It will also void your warranty!! Let the phone air dry or bag it in rice.

Above all, again, if you haven't rinsed in fresh water, do it NOW. The corrosion won't subside until all of the salt is gone.

I'm surprised Samsung doesn't have warnings for it right on the phone within the camera app. My phone opened a mini warning manual before I could use it in underwater mode.

Hopefully dan330 didn't try the compressed air, I wish I saw the post earlier. Hate to see somebody break an expensive phone.

But in the worst case scenario.... if phone water seals damaged and warranty fix denied, even if the USB port dies, the GS8 can sync, move data and charge wirelessly.

I see so many threads like this; perhaps I can make a detailed waterlogged phone repair and general no-no thread?

it has been almost a month... i have been very busy with other stuff.. and did NOT do the Rice thing yet. and DID not do the compressed air thing either... busy and lazy!!! :p

it did NOT fix itself.. dry over time.... speaker still has an issue...
it still rattles at higher volumes...
reducing the volume does reduce the rattle.. but still does rattle.

Saturday... i was out at the mall.. killing time... waiting to pickup my Daughter from school. walked past a AT&T retail store.
went in to ask about warranty.. they did a test...
and it failed the speaker.. and warranty was approved.
but i have to go to a repair center to get one.
FILE NOTED.. everything is setup for warranty.
to busy to do that this weekend...OK COOL.

TODAY... Monday.. 2 days later..... same damn phone.
shit is working just fine!!!! speak now starts to work!
WTF!!!!

now... I just read the replies above about...the Salt water being corrosive and all... i dont remember cleaning / rinsing the phone with fresh water enough to say i cleaned the USB connectors.. or the saltwater dryed IN the speaker area.
... sooo........
i think i might just go ahead and get the warranty replacement...

what are your thoughts???
