Engadget review

is anybody else worried about him mentioning the glass on the camera lens being flush? i'm really surprised htc would let something like that slip? maybe the lens has gorilla glass or something to they don't think it will scratch?

And if it does scratch, I wonder what the replacement cost would be?

If we are talking $10 or something, its not a big deal.

i'm almost certainly getting a snap-on/fit-over case/skin for my phone, and imagine that'll give it the slightest buffer when laying it flat.

i'd be VERY surprised if, in 3G, you just couldn't do the whole "menu, more, watch in HD" thing to get HQ. it's a few extra steps, but hopefully you can still watch HQ with this method on 3G.

an update from the review:

What sucks is that HQ's a bit of a tease -- it doesn't work over 3G, even though it seems like EV-DO Rev. A should have plenty of downstream bandwidth to handle what YouTube's trying to do here. Instead, you'll need to be connected to WiMAX or WiFi for things to get interesting. [Update: We've tried it a few more times, and it seems you can actually enable HQ over 3G, it just takes a while to toggle and play -- you can see evidence of that in our video above.]

How can a device this darn big that screams video, have the microsd card behind the battery? Heck, even the G1 allows hot swap, and so does the Incredible. Then again Nexus, Desire and Droid do not, but they are not exactly media monsters like this device is supposed to be. Ironic.

As far as reviews, if it is not a geek site, the reviews will be generic and just about worthless.

I thought it was kind of funny they made a (kind of) big deal out of moving the volume rocker. If they didn't move it when you used the kickstand the phone would sit on the volume rocker, it would not sit flush and you wouldn't be able to adjust the volume without picking up the phone.

great point. i haven't heard anyone mention that reasoning. not that i cared about the switch in the first place, but that makes total sense now.

ehhh, decent review! Not gonna know till I have it in my paws. so not really listening to engadget, bonnie cha, or anyone else. however, the SD card placement is absolutely ******ed, and light peeking out from under the glass? That looks like alot of light in that pic, stuff like that screams....Where's the build quality? Some may say,,, ooo stop, watch when u have a dust factory underneath there. could just be there unit. like I said not till its in my paws will I really make judgments. Still can't wait!!!!

too much focus on 4G by WSJ

am I the only one that considers the 4g feature a bonus and not the best reason to buy an Evo?

You are not the only one. 4G is a nifty side perk for me (I live in Houston) but I was sold on day one just by the looks of the phone alone. Then when I read what the phone could do.....I gave BlackBerry it's walking papers

You know whats great about that review.....there is no mention or notation that this is the "iPhone Killer", infact there are hardly any references to the iPhone at all.

No mention of, "lets wait and see what WWDC brings", no mention of well the iPhone does this a little better.

They reviewed the EVO as if its in a class of its own.

Did HTC/Sprint just set a new standard in the smartphone world?
