GOOGLE VOICE INBOUND FAIL!!!

Does anyone else have issues receiving inbound calls from Google Voice? I have a brand new Samsung S8 via AT&T, and a majority of my inbound calls to my Google Voice number hear "dead air".

If anyone has any possible solutions or work-arounds I would be very grateful, I'm at the mercy of Google responding and it does not look promising.

Thank you all in advance!

I've been using my Google Voice number as a supplemental # for several years now and it's been working out OK, but I do recall because of the complexity of the various options it took some tweaking to get things working smoothly. Use a browser to go to:
https://voice.google.com
and log into your account. In the left side panel is 'Do Not Disturb' enabled or no? Also go to the hamburger icon and access the Settings menu. There's a number of options that you should check. If you previously set up call forwarding to a cellular or landline number you might want to disable it.
Or if you're using the Google Voice app, go into its Setting menu.

Is this 'dead air' problem occurring while just on WiFi or mobile data, or both?

Thank you very much for your reply. This issue is happening both while at my home office connected to my wifi, as well as when I am on the road. I have just confirmed that the do not disturb is disabled, and also checked the app permissions on my phone, and the microphone was disabled as well. I checked it so that it was enabled again, but the problem continues.

I'm not sure I understand the "hamburger" icon though, would you mind elaborating or that for me?

Did you install it and set it up "fresh" or did you just let Google copy/install/set it up when you got the new phone?

Depending on your answer I'd suggest going into settings/apps/Voice and clearing cache, clearing data, force stopping and finally uninstalling it. Then go back into settings on your PC/laptop and just save those settings again (making sure they seem right). THEN reinstall the app on your phone and signing in fresh, go through settings again and cross your fingers. I love me some GV but switching phones with it can sometimes be a PITA frankly.

Oh! Oh! Not sure about AT&T but on Verizon I sometimes have to re-forward using *71mygvnumber.

Just looking around and found this for AT&T and Nexus but it may be helpful-ish maybe:
AT&T customers on Nexus 5X
  1. Contact AT&T Support.
  2. Ask the support representative to set up call forwarding for the following HD Voice settings: Busy, Unanswered, Unreachable. Confirm that they don't set up call forwarding for Always Forward.
  3. Give the representative your Google Voice number to use as the forwarding number.
  4. Before hanging up, check that your voicemails are arriving in your Google Voice inbox:
    • Call your phone and let it ring until it goes to voicemail.
    • Call your phone and reject the call.
    • Turn off your phone and then call it.

Thank you very much for your reply I appreciate it. I have completed the uninstall, cache/data delete and still have the same issue. In fact, even after I did that all of the permissions were not selected, including the "microphone" option. I'm going to call AT&T next to see what they do for me.

You are right though, Google Voice is a fantastic app, but when it's not working properly it's extremely frustrating.

If you should think of any other suggestions for me I would be more then appreciative!

I certainly will let you know. Just to clarify, when I call AT&T you recommend having them forward my google voice number to my original AT&T number?

Those instructions are from Google but yeah, you have to forward your Google Voice number to AT&T. GV isn't a "working" number so it has to go somewhere that is, so, GV has to be forwarded to your "real" AT&T number.

What seems to be happening for you now is GV is "getting" the calls but isn't doing anything with them, it has to forward them to a real number so they can ring through and be answered.
