Help [SOLVED] High data and battery usage!

For the last week my phone has been ripping through the battery. Normally I can go from 5am right through to 10pm and still have around 30% left before putting it on charge.

For 2 days my phone would go into warning mode by 6pm at 10% battery left. Now I've not installed any new apps, some updated.

Looking through the battery usage nothing seems out of place app wise, maybe higher android usage than normal.. which seems odd. So I started putting the phone into battery saving mode - medium setting. This helped a little but shock fear horror.. tonight I got a 80% of data used warning from my network!

Looking into this the Beaming Service has ripped through the data with 1.40gb used! Further research seemed to point to battery saving mode possibly causing it so I have turned it off just in case. Anyone else had this issue?

Regarding the battery usage I have cleared the cache partition, rebooted etc and no luck solving it yet. Any ideas?

I've been using the beta version of android 8 for ages now with no issues.

Given all your efforts to solve this issue this does appear to be head-scratcher.
Try installing this 'Trepn Profiler' app. It's a nice diagnostic utility to monitor different system resources and what's using them:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quicinc.trepn&hl=en

This 'Glasswire Data Usage Monitor' app might help too. It's maybe a little better than Android data usage but a lot better at cumulative data and summarizing.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glasswire.android&hl=en
Maybe one of these two utilities will help reveal which background process or what kind of data leakage is going on that's tapping your battery so hard.

That Trepn app got a lot of options buried in it -- in 'Preset Mode' some of the categories have their sub-menu of options; or in 'Advanced Mode' that has its own Settings menu (Take a look at the 'Data Points' section. Depending on which items are checked off to monitor that might be why you're not seeing anything???).

Thanks again svim. Had a play and found them settings and it didn't change anything, still states no apps running.

It would seem also that whatever process it eating data it's not being picked up by that app, take a look at the pics..

Hmm, looking at Trepn's Play Store page I noticed it hasn't been updated since March, 2016. I wonder if perhaps it just isn't fully functional with the chipsets that are inside newer phones like a S8+?

Regarding that Samsung Beaming Service, are you using it for various things? If not, can it be disabled without affecting anything you do use?

Yeah I noticed that too svim.

No chance, the Beaming service is linked to some 20 or 30 processes so there is no way to disable it.

I've performed a data clear in the Beaming service app and will see if this helps, will need to wait for when I'm on data rather than wifi tho.

Maybe try installing a firewall app and use it to specifically block that Beaming process from any WiFi or cellular connectivity. I've been using 'NoRoot Data Firewall' on one of my phones and like its simple interface:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jianjia.firewall&hl=en
At least that should keep it from transferring so much data, which 'might' (???) also help from the Beaming background service from chewing up so much of your phone's system resources.

Hey @svim seems I've got it all sorted.

The data usage was from some process stuck within the Beaming service, once force stopped the usage stopped. And the battery usage was linked to the phone app of all things, so once force stopped that too settled down to normal usage.

No idea why both apps did this and why a restart/cache wipe would not resolve them tho.:paperbagdroid:

Thanks for your help svim. :thumbsupdroid:
