Help LG G3 won't boot past battery / LG screen

Randomly today, my LG G3 D851 entirely stopped working, as if the battery had died. It wouldn't turn on. I have tried plugging it in and leaving it for over an hour, taking the battery out, holding the power button, putting it back in to no avail. I have tried so many combinations of things and nothing has worked. The farthest i have gotten with any combination of attempts is the screen that shows up when the phone is off but charging. it says my battery is around 80% and charging. I think "great" so try to turn it on, and it shows the LG screen for like 10 seconds and then dies. i have tested the battery with a multimeter, and it reads at 3.8v no problem. The phone was unrooted, not flashed, running stock android lollipop. Any ideas?

can you check to see if it will go into download mode?

hold volume down key while plugging it into a usb data cable connected to a windows PC.

keep holding the volume up key for several seconds until you see the screen say something like download

EDIT if this works you may be able to recover it by LGUP

After leaving it all night with the battery out, it started up right away. I did a factory reset of the phone. But one strange problem is occuring, which is that randomly, when nothing is happening, the phone will shut off. Sometimes it restarts, sometimes it doesn't. This isn't part of an update because i made sure it was updated right after resetting it, but it is frustrating being so close to having it fully working just fro it to randomly turn off every 15 minutes. Would flashing new software using LGUP possibly fix this? Or should I try and root the device to install something like cyanogenmod? Anyway I only need it to work for a couple weeks as I should be able to buya new phone soon.

an Lgup flash to stock firmware will fix any software related problems, but if it's hardware problems at the root of it, there's not a way to fix it with out fixing the hardware problem...

I wouldn't root it yet until you have seen if it is a hardware issue or not.

How old is the battery? Do you have a different battery to test out? Also check the connection between the battery and the contacts to make sure it is snug? The battery may be "loose" and not making contact and may be a reason why it shuts off randomly. I've had this issue in a different phone

I have the same problem. the battery is totally fine because I changed the motherboard of the g3 and it is running smoothly. I think the problem started because the battery ran out while the phone was updating the system and now, my best result was getting to the screen that says "updating apps 1 of 60" but after few seconds the phone died again. I could even let it go because I got the new motherboard but I really need the data on the phone. even in download mode it lasts 10 second and dies. any idea on how to get my data back if the phone is ****ed up? or maybe you could help me understand why it shouts down even if the battery is perfect?
