Root Verizon Zone3 How to root

Oh and btw I was wondering even if I do have a PP5 and when I downgrade and root it doesnt have black and white bars as mentioned would it still be possible to stop the bootloops or is it no chance?

ya know, if it doesn't have the graphics issue it should be possible.

the problem causing the bootloop is the radio/modem firmware.

the black and white graphics problem comes from incompatible graphics driver that's located in the /boot partition

If you're not graphics issue, then replaceing the radio firmware with the partitions tool should work, I've had no problems using the .img's i provided in the "Backups " part of my Kit.

tho if those files were corrupted somehow....
maybe re-download?

or the hard way is to extract the .dz from the .kdz and then extract the split's from the inside of the .dz file and combine those to create a .img file that you can restore to the device using the partitions tool by wanam.

for working with the kdz stuff you'd need a real linux machine, virt's didn't work.

but tools exist on the web for manipulating the files.
https://github.com/ehem/kdztools

but the python script had to be changed a bit to get it to work with the newer files...

I feel that you've got to be doing part 2 step 5 wrong....

maybe try the tut from scratch after flashing to pp7 with lgup refurbish option, then instead of makeing a back-up with the partition tool, just push My backup to it and "restore " that.

If the device dies after the process will it mess it up or?

well it's always best to start with a fully charged battery,
if you make it through the process and the battery dies.

It should be ok just leave it plugged into the charger and let it build a charge... if it is at the stage where boot-loops happen, it should still be ok , once he charges enough to turn on and start bootlooping... Just remove the batt. count to 15 and replace battery and put back on charger, this should result in the powered off charging screen where it shows the battery charging up
let it build a good charge then continue once it finally boots past the bootloops

and usually when it's plugged to the pc during the LGuP steps it should be getting direct power from the usb....

so I'm thinking your ok....

Best practice charge those batteries up before trying the TuT.

thanks for pointing out this question, I'm going to add it to OP.

Great feedback !

Its just a shame there are no custom recoveries for this device unfortunately

problem is secureboot, and crippled fastboot functions in /aboot ,and I hate LG and Verizon for it !

I had a Galaxy s5 with custom recovery it was amazing unfortunately it broke now im stuck with the Optimus Zone 3 and my LG K10

yeah that sux, but hey with full root plus xposed, and a bit of thought before you make any crazy changes in the /system the zone3's not half bad.

I still have a private project trying to bypass restrictions to enable the use of other network sim cards besides verizon, Right now I'm in-between test devices. the last one I turned in to a completely different phone , during R&D I kinda turned it into a K4 K121v10f and accidentally corrupted the /laf partition, and was using a non-rooted image as test.
Now it's stuck thinking it's a k4 from rogers/telus canada but it's seeing life in the hands of my wife, who's running a cricket sim card in it daily.

and they said that a verizon fone cant run att based networks....
Meet Frankin-Phone LoL

I swear I hope you get that done about the other network sim cards big time cuz on my other phone (LG K10) I have T-Mobile the only reason I ended up with the Optimus Zone 3 was because when my Galaxy s5 broke I immediately was looking for a secondary device and turns out one of my friends had an old Samsung touchscreen running like Android 2.0 Froyo and then I basically just traded the old Samsung for the Optimus Zone 3 lol unfortunately the screen is cracked but it will do

Oh yeah? It's been a while. I haven't had to use any of those tools yet but probably soon will once i get to some LG's here. So far doing these ZTE and HUAWEI phones. Sucks too because of their age. It's hard to find working links for anything. I end up having to scour the whole web for recoveries for example.

It will be worth it in the end though. Already seling them for as much as $50 fully rooted/recovery/rom'd + apps. 42 phones to go now, lmao. I'm spending more time on these phones than anything lately.
