Root [Merit] [ROM] ICS 4.0.4 ZTE Roamer EXPERIMENTAL ALPHA [stayboogy]

Well,

I thought i had mobile data issues fixed...

but,

i don't.

it's a netfilter kernel driver problem. i've backported the xt_qtaguid driver multiple times using various builds from 3.0+ kernel sources and nothing is working correctly.

because data statistics can't get the correct permissions for the device, mobile data will constantly acquire and drop over and over again after apn settings are properly applied.

i really don't see me being able to get this problem fixed. this a problem with every ics device that is not using a 3.0+ kernel source. others have remedied the issue by backporting the above said driver, but it hasn't worked for me mainly because the kernel driver won't compile no matter what i do.

I was gonna say, I used a 2.6.35.14 on ICS with great results :p

yeah the majority of the kernel is not the problem.

it's the few 3.0 parts that ics requires that cause the issues. the common thread for all ics mobile data issues is the lack of the aforementioned driver.

i was hoping there would be a workaround, but i'm not seeing it. qtaguid replaces netfilter owner match and it won't created the right permission channels without it being present.

search "backport xt_qtaguid" and see what you come up with. i've done them all and they don't work correctly.

thought the avail2 kernel source netfilter stuff would work, but no dice there either.

the problems with graphics [genlock, binder, kgsl] were a cakewalk compared to this. and i'm not sure why exactly. probably need another lg msm7x27 2.6 source that had xt_qtaguid successfully backported. if you find one of those let me know.

so,

for the last week i've been running the posted rom--a version of it anyway

i don't have much to report in the way of negatives other than

1) you must manually input your apn configuration into the phone then enable airplane mode and then disable airplane mode to get mobile data working the first time.

2) airplane mode must be toggled every boot for mobile data to work from then on

3) 3G will drop as soon as you try to use something that needs it, then it will re-aquire 3G and hopefull before your task times out--voice search when using speak-to-text for instance

4) home, menu, and back keys wake the screen, but do not unlock it

5) battery drain is crazy

needless to say, it doesn't meet the requirements for me to consider it daily driver worthy just yet.

in call works perfectly and the screen wakes immediately when it's pulled from my face, unlike the gb rom, which is the only reason i've suffered through these shortcomings this long.

if things improve i'll post a new build or two that i have, until then the one posted is the most recent.

i do have a new build using the new adreno libs that works near flawlessly graphics wise, but the graphics slow the accelerometer so it still needs some work.

because of some unfortunate events that ended in the demise of my zte open-c (which is what i upgraded to from this device) i will be working on this rom one more time.

and

there are some new developments...

as long as this kernel compiles, i will have successfully fixed the data acquire and drop problems this rom had.

it will still be sluggish, but data will work as it should.

i'll let everyone know if a new build comes about...

Well,

as much as i hate to say so,

i don't think ics will ever go any further than it has in this build for this device.

i have fixed the network stat errors that were causing data to acquire and drop over and over in a continuous loop,

however, this has not fixed the mobile data issues. for whatever reason all call and messaging protocols work, but mobile data will not.

sorry guys, gingerbread is all there will be unless by some miracle i find a fix, which is unlikely because there's no logcat data that slightly hints at the issue.
