LG G6 SLOW DOWN, HEATING AND BATTERY DRAINING FAST AFTER UPDATE

Thanks buddy! It back to normal after Re-install Whatsapp.

I had the exact same issues/symptoms as mentioned by Rehaan13, saideb79 and others.

I had it fixed by re-installing WhatsApp.

As mentioned by others, "Android Core Apps" was draining the maximum battery. I took a backup of WhatsApp, uninstalled it, restarted the phone. Observed for sometime (about an hour) that the "Android Core Apps" was not draining extra battery and my contacts speed was back now and then reinstalled WhatsApp.

Things are all back to normal now.

Looks like a complex issue with WhatsApp, Android OS update or LG's OS update. Cannot pinpoint further. Not sure if it will work for all but wanted to let know others what worked for me.

Cheers,
Anirban

Hey Guys, I was doing the cache erease and the whatsapp trick, but sadly it's still kind of overheating and depleating the battery faster than before. The contacts are loading faster, but something is still not okay. It's also interesting to read many of you got an update in early Feb - what I didn't get but still suffering from the same problems. I hope there will be a solution soon!

I am facing the same issues after the update
Impossible to dial . Takes ages to search a contact and after selecting the contact the dialer takes 15 secs to start dialing
Totally frustrated

Tried a number of things .. . Removed permission of apps etc
My observations
If you switch the data .. both cellular and wifi .. it is fast ..
Can't figure out what is the cause of this
Now every time I have to make a call I switch off the wifi and the data

The battery drain is significantly low if cellular data is off ... But I didn't have this issue before the update . The phone used to last a day with data on .
Now it lasts for only 6 hrs before the battery drains

Hi All,

I am suffering with the exactly same problem of phone dialer slowing down. Peculiar symptoms are
- it takes few seconds (sometimes upto 10) for phone to pick up number from contacts when I dial the number/alphabests
- it takes few seconds when I hit the green dial button for it to actually start calling
- it takes few seconds for phone to actually dial even if I dial from the last dialed list
- I sometimes dont see the name of contact of incoming call even if it is stored in my contacts. Name starts appearing if I dont answer for few seconds.
- battery draining in 0.75 day which used to last 1.25 days earlier
- I DONT feel any over heating.

Actions already taken -
- restarted a few times but no use
- Cleared Cache but no use
- Even did the Merge contact as suggested by one of the user but even that has not made any difference.
- checked the battery usage as suggested by one of the user, it appears like this
1. Phone Idle - 25-30%
2. Whatsapp - 23%
3. Screen - 18%
4. Android System - 15%
5. Google Services - 15%
6. Adroid Core Apps - 13%

Planning to Un-install whatsapp and see if it helps

I updated my Software on 1st Jan 18. Current Android Version is 7.0, Kerner Version 3.18.31

Strangely my problem did not start on 1st Jan. problem started on 25th Feb 18 to be precise.

I updated some of the Apps (other than Whatsapp) between 20-22 Feb and probably updated Whatsapp around 23rd-24th but not very sure about the date. I have updated Whatsapp again a week ago so cant really find the exact date.

Need help.

Phone used to work without any such problem before 25th Feb 18.

Seeing Whatsapp so high on the list makes me think that it is, if not the main culprit, complicit in the problem. Have you tried temporarily uninstalling it?

I un-installed Whatsapp about 16 hours ago n things are back to normal (out of 16, 8 hours were sleep time). Phone works smooth. No lag at all in dialer. Contacts come up fast n I can scroll, select, etc normally. No lag in call dialing after hitting the call button. Battery drain is substantially less but that is partly because the battery used by whatsapp is getting saved too.

Should I now re-install WhatsApp n see what happens? One of the user here suggested this because his problem was solved after this step.

From what I've seen in this thread and other places, when you reinstall Whatsapp, it will work okay for a while, but it's likely that after a while it will slow down again. All I can suggest is you try.

For those who rely on Whatsapp, it's a bad situation, but hopefully LG and the developers of Whatsapp will figure it out.

Thanks for quick replies.

I will reinstall WhatsApp n see what happens. I am also trying to get on touch with someone senior in LG through a reference and inform about this problem many of us are facing. Hope this may start some action to correct this.

If it has to do with WhatsApp n Android update...other brand cell phone users not facing this problem? Because My wife uses G5 n WhatsApp but she isn't facing any problem. Her Android is quite old 6.0.1 (Kernel 3.18.20) Security Patch 2016-12-01.

Or is it a complex problem of combination of LG G6, Latest Android n WhatsApp?

Hi everyone,

I have the same problem, however I don't have the problem with contacts, only that my phone sometimes heats up and the battery drains super fast (got -23% in the last 3 hours, where i was listening not doing anything more than checking a few texts)

I absolutely need whatsapp these days, but I did a "clean install" of the app without using a backup, and the phone still heats up :( I tried all of the above and it doesnt help. i'd love to get rid of whatsapp for a week or so but i cant, Ive had this phone for 2 months and I already have to charge it 2 times a day

Anyways, just wanted to say it so thats one more person.

I've noticed my LG6 gets really warm when I'm in a Sam's Club or my local supermarket, battery suffers too. Wonder if they're trying to "push" something? Next time, I may try airplane mode = on and BT = off...

Also turn location off because it is not automatically off when in airplane mode, and Google tracking you all the time.

I was in two stores at different times. When I got out and came to my car I got notification. It was pop-up from Google asking me to rate my shopping experience. I now keep location off all the time except when driving and using Google maps to watch traffic conditions.

Also I remember it was in the news some time ago that some stores were using hidden beacons to track users' cell phones.

I don't think they were doing that. Also Google isn't looking at every single person in the world's phone to see where they are. They wouldn't get anything out of that. It knows where you are because you're using location. Google doesn't know where every single place in the world is, they have to update it every so often though, but it's not like they remember it all. They aren't going to stalk you. But do keep location turned off, it uses up battery. And Bluetooth too, besides, you probably aren't using it all the time.

So, who sent me those pop-ups to rate my shopping experience after I exited those two stores?
