Help 2.1 Problems - Issues - Quirks

UPDATE FIX- For those of you having issues with the vol. keys not snoozing the alarm. Go to the alarm and press menu/settins then click on Side Button Action. It should say None, Snooze, and Dismiss. Press the Snooze option and it should work.

Yes yes, but alas, it didn't work. In my case, I *HAD* it selected so that the side buttons are supposed to Snooze the alarm...side buttons still did nothing. I'll keep testing, but it looks like a bug to me...

I just noticed a problem with my Sprint car Charger. I updated last night and everything went smooth. I downloaded the new Google maps and planned on using the Navigation this morning. Even though my phone was fully charged overnight, and the light on the car charger was lit, there was no indication the phone was charging. With 1.5 it woulkd light up either red or green. Anyone else seen this issue?

Hmm....actually, Nick, I'm finding it VERY HARD to turn the camera sideways and hold it in one hand while working my thumb over to the screen and scrolling to zoom. In fact, it's nearly impossible...I don't know about anyone else, but I still have to put my other hand on the phone to not drop it (much less keep it steady for a photo) while trying to perform a one-handed photo. I still say that the new controls, while sort of neat, make it impossible to use the phone to take a photo one-handed.

If they would restore a portrait-mode control layout, then I'd be happy with this, however, because I think one handed operation would be possible.

Thoughts from others?

LOL

LMAO!!!!

Luckily I have three hands, so I can still take a picture and give a thumbs up to the people I'm taking a picture of.

Two other issues to add to the list:

- LANDSCAPE MODE ON-SCREEN KEYBOARD AND TEXT ENTRY IS NOTICEABLY MORE LAGGY! AND CONSISTENTLY SO!!!

I noticed a number of people complaining about this since the update but didn't have a chance to try it until now. They're right...it's TERRIBLE!

- The widely-reported fact that the phone FORCES you to have a short vibrate chirp when it connects any call. No apparent way to turn this off.

The landscape text entry lag is UNACCEPTABLE! There is no excuse for that, and it really is my one legitimate gripe so far. There is no reason why an upgrade to new software should make the text entry lag more than it did in 1.5. What the **** Sprint/HTC!?!?!

What is with the short vibrate when you're making a call? It's annoying!! Someone suggested turning of "haptic feedback" in the settings. I did that & it hasn't made a difference. Anyone else have suggestions?

Here is the fix: Menu>Settings>Language & Keyboard> Touch input>Text input>Uncheck "Vibrate while typing."

I am having problems with only one of my Bluetooth devices. The one with a problem is a Magellan GPS. I can pair the device, but the connection always fails. It worked before updating to 1.2.

The difference between this device and the ones that work is that it is an "active" device. (Not sure the correct term.) It finds the phone for paring/connection rather than the phone finding it.

I'm finding a minor annoyance with contacts that also have a Facebook link.

Regardless of how many times I manually set a contact's photo to something different, it will always change back to their Facebook photo after a certain amount of time.

Annoying, as there are some friends of mine with Facebook photos I don't care to see on a frequent basis.

Im not sure what is going on, but I have NO lag with the messaging in the landscape mode, it fast and smooth. The bluetooth works fine for incoming calls and outgoing. I agree the camera should have kept the portrait mode, kind of a hassle to shoot landscape. Have you guys tried to reboot your phones to see if it clears up the lag?

I am not a fan of 2.1 or the leaked version of Fresh. I tried fresh 2.0d and just wasn't happy with it at all.

Phone was slower, calls were hit or miss. Battery life was just awful. I feel the same shit with the official version.

I like Fresh 1.5 so even though it may be old I just honestly dislike most of the damn things with the 2.1 os out there... too flaky and just seems to bog the phone down AGAIN...

All:

Is there a thread yet for a single list of issues with the new 2.1 update for the Hero? If not, here are some to start us off...

LIST OF ISSUES SINCE 2.1 UPDATE TO SPRINT HTC HERO:

- Rumored issues with Bluetooth not working for received calls (need verification)?

- Hero not consistently reporting Bluetooth device name to certain car kits ("Invalid Device" or "Name Not Found" reported by Pioneer Bluetooth car kits which connect just fine to LG and Motorola Phones, etc.)

- Small version of HTC Digital Clock widget has date off-center when in 24-hour format (e.g., they just hid the "AM" or "PM" but left the date left-justified...looks odd).

- Volume buttons no longer snooze alarms. Must wake up, physically look for small Snooze button on screen and press it (or apparently, the trackball) to snooze an alarm

- On-screen camera controls are now ALWAYS oriented for phone to be in landscape orientation. ????

- Taking a photo can no longer be done "one-handed" -- reason is that t rackball scrolling to zoom camera no longer works...must first press the new +/- button and THEN must use the new on-screen scroll bar? Too many additional presses for a simple task that was one-handed before!!
Thanks for starting this dedicated thread.

BTW, I ran into a problem with my sd card stuck in "unmounted"!?!?! Quite bizarre.
But the new update finally gets us out of this wearisome S---L----O---------W speed.

( .... Still want to know where the Hebrew support is buried. Compared with the other language/keyboard support now available, seems pretty indefensible at this point ....)
