Want incredible battery life? (OFFICIAL HTC INCREDIBLE BATTERY THREAD)

Is it possible to turn off JUST 3G -- as opposed to turning off the entire mobile network?

E.g., if 1xRTT (2g) uses less battery than 1XEVO (3g), and you are only going to be receiving emails for a few hours, is it possible to force your phone to use the 2g mode?

I have not located any such functionality on the Incredible. I've only found the widget to disable mobile network (which disables both 2g and 3g data).

I've RTFM and searched the forums......Exactly HOW do you shut off 3G?????

I have a question regarding "Running Services". With the phone "off" (sleeping?) and no application running, going to the settings>application>Running Services I went to just about all of the "running services" and Touch to stop". Then "Stop Service". "The service will no longer run until started again. This may have undesirable consequences on the application ".....". I "approve" and the application is removed from the list. However, if I just return to the home screen & go back to the Running Services the applications are back again. Last night I went to bed with a 100% charge. Nothing running... this morning battery was @ 20%!

Charging at 40% probably isn't a big problem, but I wouldn't let it sit on the charger once it is fully charged...

I know "what they say", but from my personal experiences, letting it sit on the charger all night effs up the batt. Did it to one of my phone religiously and the battery was crap after a few months. With my next phone I took it off the charger once it said fully charged and got much more out of it.

Thoughts of an app that will set off the ringtone or have some sort of an audible alert once the battery charge reaches 100%? I'd be willing to create the app but havent ventured into programming for Android.... yet.

Hey everybody,

I tried EVERYTHING to get better battery life to no avail . . . I watched battery stats, reviewed the battery history, sleep times/vs awake times, uninstalled programs, shut everything down when not in use (bluetooth, screen, etc).

I'm 90% sure now that turning off the HTC calendar widget has solved my problems!! I know somebody mentioned it either here or in another forum but I kept the widget on because it is useful for quickly reviewing an agenda view of my exchange calendar. That usefulness was outweighed by having to plug in all the time so I shut the widget down the other day and so far I've seen incredible battery life. I've been listening to mp3's on my bluetooth headphones for 3 hours and I'm at 75%. That includes a good 15 minutes or so of internet browsing. This thing would have been at the same level in just an hour a few days ago.

Also, the tip about charging to 100% while powered off (every once in a while) seemed to help, too.

:D:D:):):cool::cool:

 I just installed my Seidio 1750 into my Incredible for the first time. I use BatteryTime Lite to keep track of my time. When I first installed the battery, it showed 158 hours of Idle Time left. This is the same amount of time as my standard battery. I have the App set for the Incredible. Anyone know if this Idle Time is right? I would have thought it would have been about 25 - 33% greater since the battery is stronger.:D

I think that some of those apps just use generic estimates based on the model of the phone that they are installed on. As the battery goes down they subtract from the theoretic maximum run time for each category (web, phone, standby, games). That's the feeling I got when one of them asked me which kind of phone I have during the first run.

Run through a few charge/discharge cycles, turn off that calendar widget, and do the "charge while off" routine people talk about in the forums and you'll be fine. I even run the "shake them all" active background now without a huge impact to the battery. :D:D

One other thing I noticed is with regards to chargers. Some (most) third party wall chargers that have USB ports which allow you to use your own cable aren't worth the plastic they are made of. Get "battery indicator pro" from the market and it will tell you if the charger you are using is charging in "USB" or "AC" mode. I've noticed that when I use the wall chargers that run in USB mode the charge doesn't seem to last as long. Same goes for car chargers. They are not all made equal and the good ones not only charge faster but it seems to discharge more smoothly. There may be no technical basis behind that, but it seemed to make a difference for me. I also didn't like how some of the USB chargers made my touchscreen act slow and funny. Not cool.

ok, so im going to try turning of the HTC Calendar Widget and see if that is the issue

if it is...what are my alternatives? No widget? I guess that's ok as long as the calendar will still display notifications

I got over not having the widget really quick when I got longer run times out of the battery. Need to look through the market to see if there are any alternatives. Good luck on yours . . . I hope it helps. Also, yes it will still pop up with meeting notifications even if you close the widget.

Also noticed eBuddy and Meebo IM clients SUCK battery with a quickness (even with battery save settings enabled in the clients). They are both great utilities, but use them sparingly. Off to convert all of my contacts to Gtalk. ;)

I don't know I thought about buying a 1750 from Sideo for $50 but instead ordered 2 1500 batteries from Ebay that also came with a extra battery charger for $14.99 shipped . And I couldn't be happier with the batteries they give a little better life then the stock 1300, and they look identical to the stock battery even say HTC Innovation on them. So I don't buy into all the pay almost as much as you paid for the phone on a mildly extended battery crap.

Who was the seller plz! That sounds like the win win. thanks

I seem to be getting about two days use with the 1750 Seidio. It seems in line with the 1800 Extended battery in my Samsung Saga.

I sync about four calendars including one full Exchange account hourly.
One Gmail account setup on imap hourly.
Friendstream (better than the crappy facebook app)
BT on for the work day (auto on/off 9am-7pm)
wifi on occasionally (because it DOES use less power for data than 3G) but otherwise off when I don't have a wifi connection.
gps on because it is only used when it's used.
live wallpaper seems to only suck 2%
Automatic airplane mode from 12am-6am
Normal phone, email and app usage during the day
Ocassional game and social networking.
HTC Calendar widget doesn't seem to hurt.
No Weather use. I have a window.
Good Verizon signal everywhere.
A little fring and ip cam viewing but not normally.

Those are some pretty impressive stats and good notes Lars. If you have a chance, could you send us the details of your "Settings > About > Battery > Battery Use" screen after say 36 hours of being unplugged? I'm curious to see how the cell standby and phone idle factor in with everything else.

Right now I'm at 76% with 4h47 mins unplugged. OEM battery.

Cell standby 34%
Phone idle 35% (No calls on it this morning)
Camera 13% (about 5 pictures)
Android System 10%
Bluetooth 4% (was streaming music to my stereo in the car for about 20 mins driving to work this morning)
Mediaserver 4% (been listening to MP3's on and off all morning)
Display 3%

I get push email and calendar from an ActiveSync enabled Exchange server.
Gmail emails set to receive as they arrive (no contacts or calendar)
Twitter set to manual updates
HTC Clock/weather set to hourly updates
Bluetooth and GPS typically set to off unless I'm using them but I'm going to try leaving GPS on as it shouldn't use any (much) power unless its being called by an app. Bluetooth seems to use battery even when not in use.
I've been using WiFi more at home lately and it does seem to take much less battery than 3G. Might set that on a timer or location based rule with "SettingProfile" application.

I can honestly say that my usage patterns are DRASTICALLY different now compared to the past few weeks. When I first got the device I couldn't put it down. I think that my usage has normalized and I'm getting some more work done during the day now. :D I'm sure that is a huge factor in the battery game.

Does this really Work?
Yeah, you can dial that sequence and it will automatically take you to a "Battery History" application that lets you dig deeper in to what is using processor, battery, network, etc.

You can also make a shortuct to it using a program called "anycut" from the marketplace.

Its pretty useful to see whats going on with your phone . . . identify apps that are draining power, constantly hitting the network, etc.

I had to charge my phone last night so I lost my battery stats. I've been unplugged for 5.5 hrs and the battery is at 80%. I'll have to wait to post back.

Interestingly the unplugged time sometimes get stuck and doesn't advance. Also Enabling or disabling wifi and maybe BT can reset that counter. I'm not sure what but sometimes it resets though I haven't plugged it in anywhere. It must trigger on something wierd.

BT does use power when not in use because it has to listen for devices to connect to and occasionally broadcast that it exists. Sometimes that is as much power as cell standby in the battery app.

Or you could just download spare parts and get the battery history too.
