MS Onedrive issue

Neither of those, syncing works and is up to date and my a/c is only 30% full, its strange and didn't happen on my previous s7edge running Nougat.

And I need to have it running on the s9+ specifically to sync files, so that I can dload them when I'm back on my home PC.

App active today = 0min, background usage is 6.5hrs  However the phone's batt is losing about 4% per hour / some screen time in that.

Do you have it set to update files on WiFi only or both WiFi and mobile data? I don't see that kind of drain from OneDrive, but have it set to update files on WiFi only.

Set the same as you, wifi only, it's driving me nuts, i've uninstalled the updates (you can't seem to fully uninstall it?) that just made it crash, i've turned it off from running in the background, cleared cache. Nothing makes any difference.

Disable the app. That is the only way to see if your issues remain

Well yea that stops the issue, as its not running, as you would expect. Actually i dont think there is an issue now, although the background usage is constant and reported as the top batt user in my batt stats, my actually battery usage i think is fairly normal.

When its running without the latest updates so on version 4.1 it's not an issue. However the app crashes constantly when in use, but there is no battery/background usage. It must be an issue with the latest update and either the s9/s9+ and/or Oreo. Why it doesn't happen for everyone i have no clue.

Just to throw in a data point....

I've got onedrive on my pixel2... and it doesn't even register as a battery drain.

Now admittedly i very rarely use it on my phone.. but I throw work stuff into there from my PC.. so it should have some syncing to do...

And I've just checked... apparently i haven't got it set to have anything available offline..

Right... now i'm going to have to make sure i have... and then i can see if it syncs all the time.

Nope. An LG G6, but it doesn't seem to be a widely reported problem which makes me think that it's not necessarily an overarching problem with Oreo, S9's or the app, but something specific to your configuration.

Well that's the point, s9/+ has only recently been released, maybe other users who have them and are using onedrive haven't noticed the batt drain yet. Seems strange that I have fantastic batt life when onedrive is disabled and I don't have any other issues with any other syncing apps at all.

Found the cause/issue. I have a "Wallpaper" folder with ~1200 pics in it on my external SD card, if i include this folder in the onedrive additional folders under camera upload, then it runs constantly for hours draining the battery as mentioned. However it's already synced the folder in question when the SD card was in my previous phone. And if i toggle off this folder then the app stops running in the background and batt life is then excellent as previously mentioned.

I wonder if there's some kind of limit on the # of pics in a folder before it triggers this bug. 1000 pics would seem to be a likely number, as i have other folders with 600 odd pics in which don't trigger the bug. I tested by including each folder one by one in the camera upload settings and watched the app's active state in GSAM to test.

So definitely a bug on a new device where onedrive tries to resync everything again.

Not sure how to get around it. Tried creating a new folder/name, moved all the wallpaper pics into that, same issue. I guess i could split the wallpaper folder into multiple folders, but that's not ideal and shouldn't be needed.

Anyway this might be helpful for someone else with a similar issue.

If it were a limit on the number of images, then it would have probably had the same issue with your old phone. I'm wondering if it might be an integrity issue with your SD card. Have you run a low level scan on the card to see if it's got some bad sectors? It could be simply getting stuck on a corrupt file.

No, not necessarily as on my old phone that wallpaper folder was built up over a long time, so each image was synced to 1drive over a long period. Whereas on the new s9+ its was effectively a 1200 pic folder being resynced/rechecked by 1drive.

Yep the SD card is perfect and everything else works fine. Also i manually scanned through all the wallpaper pics, they are all displayed without issue.

This is 100% a bug with 1drive v5.6 imo.

You were right lunatic i did have some corruption on my SD card when i checked it properly again. But not in the "wallpaper" folder. So i formatted it and copied all the files back again from PC backups. The card maybe on its last legs? although everything reads n writes to it fine. I understand that SD cards can corrupt after 4-5yrs and a format usually solves the issue, which seems to be the case here. Its a Sandisk 128GB card, only used about 10GB on it.

Anyway guess what, the issue remains, unless i disable 1drive it just keeps running in the background for hours, taking out 10-20% battery. Really pissing me off...
