I want to buy a mobile that can accept updates and apps for at least 5 years from now. Sony Xperia Z1 is one of my choices, but I am wondering If it can accept updates for about 5 years from now. Because I want to make sure that I will be able to use apps like uber taxi and receive flash updates etc.. till that time.

Updates for XPERIA Z1

No manufacturer will offer system updates for 5 years, not even Google's own Pixel range is updated for that long after release.
Most manufacturers aim for regular(ish) updates for 2 years after a devices release. Custom ROMs are an option, but even then 5 years is a stretch.
App updates on the other hand should work fine, most apps on the Play store will work with Kit Kat and above and that's ancient at this point.
If you can afford it, maybe look at something newer than the Z1, it's circa 4 years old at the moment and hasn't been updated for years.
