Not a fan of the lock screen

I still am wondering what you are looking at. My lock screen AND AOD screen are both a 1 line horizontal clock.

Forgive the blurry pic. Taken under difficult conditions.

Ahh. This is indeed seems to be the AOD
Go to Settings->Lock Screen and Security->Always On Display.
Tap the highlighted Digital Clock.
Tap Clock style.
Change to your favourite.

Many posts have complained that you cannot change the clock style on your lock screen but can on AOD.

I have found that changing the AOD clock style also changes the Lock screen but, only after the AOD first becomes active after reboot (or some other dark magic)

It's not AOD and I don't want AOD on, thanks. It's the basic lock sctreen.

OK. I disabled my AOD for testing this (It's only set on between 5am and 7:30 as a bedside clock anyway).

I also restarted after turning AOD off to ensure it stuck.

Setting the clock style on the AOD does also set the style of the lock screen. It is just not immediately obvious as at boot the lock screen shows the default clock style at boot.

Once fully booted up and the screen locks again the basic lock screen will show the style you chose for AOD.

Certainly counter intuitive options but we got there.

See my lock screen with no AOD enabled but using the AOD config to set it. Is it not wonderful to you that the really ugly 2 ilne clock has gone away.
Do you now feel warm and fuzzy inside?
Do you want to shout Yeah?
or just set it up, tip a hat, the hat and get on with things?

Going to try this. People say it reverts but maybe it now doesn't.

NP.

Settings->Lock Screen and Security
Tturn on Always On Display
Press Always On Display
Press selected crappy clock
Press Clock style
Select prefered clock
Back
Back
Back
Not sure if you can disable now or if you reboot before disabling but I would reboot with AOD enabled at this point just to make sure. I am sure it is unnneccessary but I know you have been at this one for a while. Anyway, after boot the lock should share the clock you chose and do so even after disabling AOD

OK, so there are more clocks.

Have they separated the lock screen clock style from the OAD clock style?

Obviously you are happy so if not it would have been nice to let us al know that the previous fix for clock style under Nougat worked for you.

If it didn't and you had to do something different in Oreo to achieve what you were looking for it would be good to supply steps where there are differences in the configuration.

My assumption is that after my update of April 7th your issue was resolved but you forgot to update the thread to let anyone else visiting know this.

Please advise though if the Oreo configuration path has differed.

I'll also agree with you that if this is the difinitave list then they have added 1 readable digital style, one readable analogue style and a load of complete tosh.

Cheers.

Anyway. I'll let this particular bridge lie. I'll take my goats elsewhere.

I hadn't been on to the forum for a while. Simple as that.

Oreo steps

Settings>Lock screen and security>Clock and facewidgets>Clock style.

No need to mess around with 'always on' display.

Several of the digital styles are readable and you have control of the colour.

Clicky thing?

I quite like the pop to release spring end on the 8. I can annoy people in meetings by clicking it ;-)
In reality it does reduce the risk of accidental pen removal on phone removal from pocket while making the pen slightly more removable when popped

I will agree that it is unneccessary and another possible point of possible failure though.

It was for precisely that reason I didn't like it. Mechanical failure waiting to happen was my instant thought. I immediately bought a spare. One duly did fail at the clicky bit. It was eventually replaced by Samsung. One S-Pen just snapped in two while I was using it. No idea why.

As of this week, I now have a "gold" S-pen (well two because I still don't trust the clicky thing).

I've never had the clicky thing fail on a biro though. I have now seen 3 instances posted of the S-Pen snapping in the middle.
I am assuming manufacture is contracted out and there will have been a small instance of manufacture failure. Usually these are on runs between glue replacements where there is a bubble in the pipe and a couple of units get half or none of the glue.

I do have a spare but that was bought more in case of pub loss than breakage.
