Hello!

This is my first thread on this site so I hope I'm doing it right and people will help me solve my problem here.

Since my old sd card was broken, my dad got me a new sd card (verbatism micro sd 512GB)
I was really happy because it worked and I got to move all my apps and pictures to my external storage but, today I woke up and all my apps that were on external storage were gray and I couldn't open them anymore.
I got that problem with my last sd card too so I knew something was off.
I went to my settings to see if my phone could tell me more about the problem but I guess it didn't recognize the sd card since it told me there was no sd card inserted.

I'm kinda sad and bummed about this whole thing and I don't understand what's going on to be honest. I tried cleaning it already and I'm not able to format it right now since I don't have one of those card reader thingies at home.

Does anyone have any ideas about what's going on with my sd card or why my phone isn't able to read it? Please help me out if you can! I want to have enough storage to download candy crush again.

Thank you for your help!

There could be an issue where your J5 simply doesn't support a 512GB microSD card. Looking at different sources that model will only be able to use a card up to 128GB. (Although one site did refer to 256GB, but in any case your issue is apparently the card capacity issue.)

Hi! Thank you for replying so fast. I understand where the issue comes from but I don't understand why it worked perfectly fine for 3 days and then stopped working. It doesn't make sense to me but still thanks a lot for your help!

Others have reported here that their phones have successfully been using higher capacity microSD cards than what their phones have listed in their hardware specs, and I'm clueless as to the internals and details as to why some phones support really high capacity cards while others don't, but perhaps it's safest to just use a 128GB card and see how things work out in the long term.

This might sound stupid or stupid easy, either way, I was having on and off problems with my SD card. I got messages like this card is not supported even though it had previously successfully transferred photos. When I would click on recent nothing showed (typical computer crap) anyway, I went in to look again and it was a simple thing that screwed me up. The card was unmounted. I went through all the hard stuff only to find that somehow I had hit unmount. D-oh This may not be your issue, however, sometimes it's the little things we overlook.
