Hello All,

Currently I use Maildroid on my S7, and K-9 Email on a T705 tablet.

Both work OK but both have little issues. Maildroid falls over with attachments over a few MB, and K-9 doesn't really work well on a phone screen.

I do need POP, not IMAP or gmail :)

Many thanks for any tips.

Peter

This may sound a little cliche but Gmail app works perfect.

Gmail has many issues however, for serious use. It runs weird antispam policies. For example I did a little test with a colleague who I have been emailing with for about 15 years. An email containing one word would always be dumped. More than one would get through. Over a larger number of recipients I have seen a 1/3 loss, if the email is fairly short, say 5 lines, and contains a URL. If it contains an IP address, it is 10x more likely to be dumped. This is even if you have created an inbox folder for the sender (which is one of the markers to google of a "wanted" sender).

Basically, google is still running the policies from 10-15 years ago, where you dump emails according to dumb criteria. The correct way to antispam is to signature emails as they arrive, across the entire user base (which for gmail is massive), delaying everything by some tens of seconds so you get a good view, and then a spammer is really obvious because you get loads of emails which look very similar.

No real business could use Gmail... it's a joke. At work we pay a lot to Messagelabs for high grade email filtering (we do a lot of international stuff) and we use https://www.authsmtp.co.uk/ for outgoing emails (with SPF and DKIM all set up).

Also most serious users need to send emails with different From: headers (business, private, etc).

I think I'm pretty serious about my business email account with Google Gmail. I've had it for about 8 years never been hacked never had any problems, never had spam issues. A large part of this has something to do with how much information Google have about you also. I've noticed over the years the more information I gave Google the more security levels they gave me with all of my applications. I tried to login from a device that wasn't known and Google automatically shut my account down until I gave them a confirmation call that it was me using that device. So I'm not sure about what kind of joke you are talking about but I don't see how anything can be more secure than that.

I think there's a little confusion. I originally thought @KBU2 was suggesting to use the Gmail app to access your POP3 accounts, but then the explanation sounded like he was using a business gmail account (which is quite different from consumer gmail).

I was speaking of Gmail app for Pop3 but I also added when the user above me stated no real business could use Gmail so I took the time and explain to him how they worked with me also as I added to use Gmail app.
