Hello

I'll be very grateful to get help on the issue of transferring pics/videos from camera to tablet S4 T231

I'm trying to download pics/videos to my tablet from the camera SD card to the tablet and then would like to copy them to a flash drive. I've put in an additional 32GB microSD card for my tablet. I don't have a SIM for the tablet , use it only on wifi and for offline maps, translation app on holidays

We have a Panasonic lumix fz 70 camera, no bluetooth and usually transfer pics/videos to laptop using a memory card reader.

I'm trying to do this during vacation through my S4 T231 but my tablet does not recognise the usb connector. I've seen many youtube videos like this one:
I've got a couple of USB connectors but none light up and my tablet says my device is not rooted.

Tried to download Odin 3 1.85 but not able to get a good version.

Kindly help, thanks!
Sam

There's a whole mix of different things going on in your query. First off, ignore Odin. The Odin utility is for flashing ROMs (as in 'replacing/restoring the operating system') and doing specific, underlying tasks to Samsung mobile devices, it is not a file transfer tool. Second, a SIM card is different than a microSD card. A SIM card is not necessarily a file transfer media, it's primary purpose is to enable a mobile device to use specific carrier's cellular service.
In your situation, the odds are instead of the more complication transfer process you're trying to set up, microSD cards are pretty standardized so taking the card out from your camera and mounting it into your S4 or your Tab 4 tablet should work out for file transfers.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I do know what a sim is.
My camera has SD card and the tablet has only microSD slot where I've put 32 GB card.

I see several videos on youtube showing transfers with otg cable. Just wonder what I can do.

will be glad for any guidance

Does a drag and drop from your SD card to your comp and then move to your S4 from the comp work?

Yes, there is no problem connecting my camera SD memory card reader to my laptop and transferring pics /videos to laptop.

The laptop is recognising the tablet and is willing to copy pics from the tablet also. My issue is transferring pics/videos from camera SD card to tablet when on vacation instead of waiting to return home to the laptop.

The problem seems to be that my device T231 is not rooted, so it's not OTG compatible. I have 2 adapters both of which are not recognised.

Any pointers on making the device OTG compatible?

Thank you!

Just thought I had better confirm what I was advising.
I've taken the SD card from my Samsung Digimax 360 camera and put it in the Transcend adapter and connected it by the OTG to my Lenovo TAB3-710F Tablet.
The Lenovo is running Android 5 (Lollipop) and it recognized and installed and read the cards photos in the Gallery App. I could then save them to Google Photos.
Is this the process you wanted to complete?

Yes, I want to use an OTG cable to download from my camera SD card to my tablet while still on vacation. I see my tablet Galaxy S4 T231 is not on this list of OTG compatible devices:

Could you please suggest IF/how I can make my tablet recognize the OTG?

[Usually I put the camera SD card in a memory card reader and connect it to my laptop at home and download everything; Just want to know if I can do it through my tablet while on vacation]

Many thanks for your response.

Why would your device need to be rooted? OTG adapter enables external drives to import/export data as necessary.
The Hash code *#0808# should allow a change to USB settings. You should also be able drag from the top of the screen and tap to open Menu for changes to USB when your OTG is plugged in.

My device is saying it has to be rooted to recognize the OTG cable and is opening oneclickroot software for this. I'll see what this usb setting is on my tablet. thank you for your time!

OTG is a common standard, and most people that rely on it (numbering in the millions) they have not had to root their devices.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_On-The-Go
Since you're seeing requests for one of those one-click rooting apps, that's just a typical, malicious pop-up. It is not some Android instructional thing for you to enable OTG. If this pop-up occurs only when you're using a browser, quit the browser app and clear its cache. But if this is occurring randomly, you might need to install some kind of anti-virus/anti-malware app.

I got this message just once. It's not a frequent pop up. I'll be happy to get an easy solution for my tablet to recognise Usb

I've tried 2 adapters (samsung's own OTG cable as well as a 4-in 1 cable
https://www.amazon.com/eKit-Connect...r=8-12&keywords=Samsung+4+in+1+connection+kit),

nothing works.

In demo videos, they just plug in the OTG cable and usb connected pops up. For me, there is nothing

this app is saying otg is not supported on this device.

is this the end of the road?

thanks.
Nuts, I guess we should have lead with determining if your tablet had OTG support or not. It's basically a hardware issue and while there are software-based kluges (example, see below), I'd wouldn't recommend trying to on your primary device. If you've got a spare tablet, or wish to buy a refurb, then experiment on that all you want.

Thank you for your time.

I had assumed all devices are OTG compatible, only later realised some are not. Saw some one's suggestion to root the device to solve the problem, but I could not get Odin version they had suggested. They had been successful for the same model T231

I knew my device was OTG incompatible, I had even checked the list of OTG compatible Samsung devices. sorry I did not make it clear in my query.

This tablet is primarily used on vacation for accessing free wifi and for offline apps like maps and translation app. Just hoped it could help with the pics/videos too.

I'll see your link, but won't be attempting risky stuff. will probably get a new device OTG compatible

Many thanks once again

This is your answer. Or get a larger GB SD card to store more photos/video.
Personally, I would get a newer Tablet and make sure it was OTG capable. Your current unit is now 4 years old and is very much a base model and from all reports a very poor camera experience.
My Lenovo was principally purchased for my wife to play games on. This was very much a base Tablet (no phone capabilities) and requires additional storage via Micro SD card.
Choose wisely.:D
