Ad Blockers

There are a number of ad blockers for unrooted phones, such as DNS66, Block This, BlockAda. You won't find any of them in the Play Store, because let's face it this is Google, the world's biggest ad company, we are talking about here, but the F-Droid repository (open source apps) has a range of them (and you can get the F-Droid app in the Play Store).

But to be honest I'd also want whatever is responsible for this ad off my phone - I would classify that thing as malware. What apps did you install or update in the days before this started? That would be the first place I'd check. Of course if you are using a third party dialer app I'd remove that and see whether that fixed it. Bear in mind that non-root ad blockers don't block everything, and if one succeeds it may not stop the pop-up, just block the content, so you want to identify and remove the app responsible for this anyway.

Thanks for the response. Good ideas. I started by eliminating all the notifications but that didn't stop the ads. Could new themes do the ads? I did get a new theme which I like. I'm going to go find the ad blockers you mentioned and see if that help. Thanks again for the quick response.
