How to backup phone

My phone is an Alcatel 8050D, Pixi 4 (6) 3g. The version of Android is reported as 5.1.

Can anyone advise me please how I can totally back up my phone (apps, contacts, etc - the lot) ?

Two reasons:

1) there may be a newer version of Android available.

2) I have a 32gb microSDHC card, but for some reason the phone keeps telling me I'm running out of space (!) Therefore, I may need to reset the phone for that purpose, i.e. to get it to recognise it as internal storage, so it can store apps, contacts etc.

Thanks, if anyone's able to advise please.

If you are running Android 5 there is no way to make the phone treat the SD card as internal storage. That was only introduced with Android 6 (and not all phones support it even then). With 5.1 you can partially move some apps to SD (if Alcatel included that option, but that's all). For installing apps only internal storage is relevant, it doesn't matter how much space is free on the SD card.

There are various backup options, but none that will give a comprehensive backup just by itself (except perhaps Titanium Backup Pro, which requires root). Contacts can be synced with Google or "exported" from the contacts app to a vcard file which you can then copy to safety. There are many apps that can back up SMS and call logs. Some message apps have their own backup option. And there are a number of backup apps (e.g. I've used My Backup Pro, but not for some years) which can do a lot of these things together but generally need root to back up app data.

For app backup without root Helium is the best I know, but will not get 100% of app data. You can also select a setting to back up your app data with Google from your phone's menu: some people swear by it, but I've never been brave enough to trust it without a second backup of my own.
