As always with custom mods and ROMs and such, you take full responsibility for what you flash on your device, and what happens to your device as a result of flashing. If things break for some reason, don't go blaming me.
This is, as far as I can tell, the most stable ROM for the E4 that has a recent security update (June 5th, 2018). It's not perfect, but for me it has been more than good enough as a daily driver, and continues to be so even to this very day. Plus there's lots of cool settings and tweaks to play with too!

WHAT WORKS
  • Damn near everything
WHAT DOESN'T WORK
  • Encryption will fail if you're on the 3.8.8 build. If you clean flash 3.8.9 and the RIGHT AWAY go and set your password and encrypt the phone, it looks like it'll actually work
  • Data doesn't work on Boost Mobile apparently (but everything else does?)
  • Apps on the SD card will sometimes get lost when you reboot, so make sure all your crap's installed on Internal Shared Storage
  • Bluetooth/headphone audio if you have the 3.8.9 update. I've left the 3.8.8 version in the downloads folder if you want to stick with that
  • You tell me

SPECIAL THANKS TO
  • squid2 for those e4 trees
  • The crDroid team for their wicked cool ROM, also thanks to them for actually updating and caring about their Nougat source unlike most other ROMs out there
  • @bcrichster for telling me how to fix the spark plugs on a honda civic engine

Awesome! Thanks for your hard work. I will have to get around to giving this a try. I'm not an expert so excuse me for asking this, but under What Doesn't Work you said Encryption will fail and you will have to do a factory reset. That sounds like something I would not want to happen. Could you elaborate for a novice? Thank you!

This will only happen if you try to encrypt Android--as in select the option in Security menu that encrypts your /data partition and requires a password before bootup completes. If you choose not to do this you will never run into this problem.

Umm.. The xt1766 is perry, not Sperry. So that could be a problem in itself.

Thanka for the reply
So please can u tell me which version Perry ROM will work on this phone ?

I'd think all of them, if you're not using Verizon... Also, if you updated all stock updates (especially July 2018) ya won't have any data connection since modems were likely changed

Just pushed an update, brings the crDroid version from 3.8.8 to 3.8.9... although it seems to break audio functionality. Speakers work just fine, but headphones and bluetooth don't get detected for some reason

UPDATE: I clean flashed 3.8.9 and right away set a password and encrypted the phone to see if it would work... and it did! So if you want encryption but don't care about headphone audio at the moment, 3.8.9 is the right version for you

We have a small dev group that's looking into how to fix this audio bug. I hate to make you guys choose between versions like this depending on what you want working, so please bare with us for a bit

Calling all my faithful crDroid users!

I'm gonna be honest with you, crDroid is NOT my favorite ROM. I honestly don't like it that much--especially the annoying row of numbers on top of the aosp keybaord you can't get rid of (and how any 3rd party keyboard app like Gboard refuses to install properly or vanishes on reboot). The only reason I was building and using this before was because crDroid was the newest ROM that actually worked with the trees we had.

But as you may have seen by now, we now have a new set of trees that fixes Sprint LTE and sound issues, meaning we can build normal stuff again like Lineage that has MUCH newer security patches than even the latest crDroid does. Now that I can build "normal" stuff for this phone, my plan was to just abandon crDroid here because I had no need for the role it filled previously--the last somewhat stable ROM we could have on this thing. However, if there's a bunch of you out there that REALLY LIKE this ROM here and are extremely devoted to it, I'll push out one last build for you all utilizing the newer trees.

Let me know in replies to this post if you guys really want me to make another newer build of this. If I don't get anything I'll just assume you're like me and moving on to the newer stuff all of us are pushing out for this phone.

Lemme just mention this here for anyone browsing for a ROM to flash on their Sprint/Boost variant E4: if you did the SIM unlock trick and you're trying to get a GSM network like ATT or Tmobile working on your phone, then as far as I can tell (as of the time I wrote this post) this ROM right here is the latest one that will work with all that. I can say with certainty that all of MY other newer ROMs break this functionality due to how the trees are set up, and I'm not sure how to "change them back" to make it compatible with GSM stuff again. As far as I know the other newer ROMs by other people also use the trees that break GSM too, but if I'm wrong about this then please correct me.

The good news is apparently someone who's a very well known Moto dev on XDA is working on porting Lineage 16 to Perry & Owens (didn't say when he'd be done but he said it was on his list of things he wants to do). Perhaps with his new sources GSM will work again on S-variant users--I know I'm sure hoping it does.
