I'm going to write an essay as part of the examination for a big undergraduate course. The topic can relate to any computer science related issue and I don't have any ideas, not any good ones anyway. :D

Since I've done some Android apps it would be fun to write about something Android or smartphone related, but other CS topics are also very welcome.

If you got any suggestions then please help me out. :)

I think it would be interesting to investigate why Linux has succeeded in servers & mobile devices but failed so miserably in the desktop market year after year.

I vote this.

Not to hijack the topic, but I've considered doing CS and have taken an introductory course to test the waters. I'm basically addicted. I love the problem solving, yes, even that bit of frustration where you want to break stuff, and love the hands on approach. Is this a good gauge as to whether or not I can succeed in CS?

Woo boy... this is a very tricky question to answer and you will see why. First off, define CS... Like any other aspect of technology, everyone and their mom has a definition for CS... Some say it focuses soley on the programming/software side of things, while other say that hardware is just as important in the field of CS... If you are strictly talking about software development/programming, then, in my opinion (and again, everyone will have their own), you need two fundamental characteristics to succeed as a software developer:

1) You need to have the brain for it. Just as some people are better at solving chemical equations, a software developer needs to be able to think outside of the box and be able to do it well. For every answer to a problem, one must foresee 50 more answers... It's not something that can be learned, it's something that one is born with... It's the way a particular person's brain works... Without this characteristic, one will never make it in the software field... period...

2) The person must enjoy the field so much, that he/she becomes an animal. I use the term "animal" to mean that the person eats, sleeps, and dreams what he/she enjoys... A person must have the desire to dive into a project, tackling the challenges head on. You can be trained by an institution all you want, but to truly rise as a great developer, you must devote your life to the "craft". The more you research, study, and read about CS, and the more info you actually absorb, the greater your craft will become.

Programming is an art. There is no one clear-cut way of doing anything.. just as every drawing of a sunset will differ, so will every piece of code that solves a quadratic equation. Of course, piracy is inevitable in either field, but that is neither here, nor there. What I am trying to get at is the more you devote your free time to what you do, and the more you love what you do, the better you will become... If you simply take courses at a university, do the homework, and take the tests, you will never amount to anything in the field...

I apologize for the lengthy post, but I hope that you realize now exactly how deep this field of study really is.

I suggest to not using computer science itself for your essay given the fact that computer science, by its nature is technical. And I am sure that technical essay will frighten most prospective readers moreover. You have knowledge about technical background, which means that it will be very easy for you as well. I would suggest you to write social aspect of computing revolution (internet technology like Android operating systems and related devices). How internet has changed the way we behave. Many essay writing services are written articles and blogs about android applications and its features. You can easily get from internet.

I agree with Bennypole having written a few technical essays before; unless your prof wants a lot of technical detail and has the ability to understand your topic (maybe they an apple person and doesn't know anything about android). If you can focus more on the broad socal aspect it makes it relatable to a larger audience.

Thinks like how technology has changed the way we live/work for example the company I work for now dropped employees from 400-500 to closer to 100 employees because of computer automation. Or how smartphone have become so embedded in our lives that I couldn't imagine a day without my Desire.

The social aspect is a lot more relatable because everyone has been affected by technology like it or not.

Hmm sounds as a hard topic. I think it takes too much time for writing about computer science. I have never made friends with science at all. It is good or not I don't know. If I were you I would ask someone to write instead of struggling. While I am studying in the university I (MOD EDIT: LINK REMOVED) where I can find there professionals with nice quality who will write me essay on any topic and I will be able to get a high mark. So it's better not to waste your time what will be useless in your future. Wish you good luck.

Paying for someone else to do your work, then passing it off as your own can get you kicked out of university.

Absolutely. Speaking as an academic, anyone who would buy an essay has no place in any university. And while I can think of no possible defence or mitigation anyway, my own institution's code of conduct leaves us no discretion in how we deal with anyone found to have done this.
