Help S PEN ISSUE

I have selected what I want the Spen to do in various apps. It works with taking pics with the camera, but when I long press on the home screen it does not open the camera. I have tried it with Chrome (single press forward, double press back) but all it does is bring up the Spen widget which tells me that the commands are single press or double press. Any suggestions on why it’s not working consistently?

Hi there - when you say that your are long pressing on the home screen, I don't understand what that has to do with the S Pen. I have the S Pen set up for the camera: when I long press the button on the S Pen, it opens the camera app on the phone. I can then tap the button and it acts as the shutter... or double press it to switch from rear to front cameras. I have no idea where you're at with the Chrome browser, as that has nothing to do with either the S Pen or the camera.

Hey Chief. When I long pressed my spen from the homescreen it didn’t open the camera. Also one of the spen commands is that when you are in Chrome you can set up the spen to control scrolling. It has since started working. I backed off from the phone a bit (instead of being right next to the screen) and the commands are now working. Thanks for answering.

@Deelynde I don't even know what you mean by pressing the home screen - I thought we were talking about the S Pen controls. I have no settings on my S Pen that even involve a home screen. You said "I long pressed my S Pen from the homescreen" and that confuses me: FROM the homescreen? Do you have an icon for an S Pen or something? I don't understand what you are doing that involves the homescreen.

I discovered the same issue and this is what I believe is happening. It is the difference between the phone responding to the S-Pen the old way and activating air command versus the new Bluetooth features of the S-Pen. When the S-Pen is close enough to the screen (so that you can see the tiny circle indicator where the tip of the S-Pen is pointing), the S-Pen acts like the old S-Pens and Notes do, so pushing the button will open air commend. When you move the S-Pen far enough away and the pointer dot is gone, the Bluetooth features will be used instead. My guess is the Bluetooth features are designed to be used when away from the phone, so why let a user use them when holding the phone? Makes about as much sense as forcing the Bixby button. So far I have not found a way to disable air command and only use the Bluetooth actions, so I just remember to pull the S-Pen away about 4-6 inches then press it.

I can open up the camera app from any screen, switch cameras and take shots - all with the S Pen. No need to have the camera app open already. I long press the S Pen to open the camera, double press to change cameras, and press is the shutter.

I would, however, love to disable the shutter sound! The Note 8 had the option in camera settings, as did almost every Note in the line. The unlocked Note9 does not have it.

I am having the same problem with the S pen not working remotely. I did try your suggestion of holding the pen further away but still not working. I can't open up anything remotely. Any other advice?

Just bought the Note 9 yesterday, and I've been playing with it since then and reading all the "tips and tricks" that I can find. One issue I am having is that when I go to settings - display, I can't open up the Home Screen or the Icon Frames under display. I am also having problems with not being able to use the S pen remotely. I have followed all instructions and it is set up correctly, but the clicker doesn't do anything. Any advice/suggestions is greatly appreciated!

what is your carrier?
did you mean the floating icons that are supposed to appear when you pull the pen out? you can go into the settings for ther Spen and change this behaviour. i don't know what "icon frames" mean...

as for the button on the spen, you have to make sure the appropriate app is setup on the pen. as an example, what specific app are you trying to use in that the spen is not working as you expect?

just sounds like user error rather than any physical damage.. regardless, we will help you...

My carrier is tmobile. I tried opening up the camera as instructed on the spen remote set up. I have the camera setup as single press to take picture, double press to switch camera. The spen works fine if I use it by tapping on the screen. I have tried remotely opening other apps as well but it doesn't work.
