Peel remote not that appealing

Peel remote has been sending messages that I don't want. The first step was to block them. When that didn't work I resorted to force stop. I'm still getting them. Apparently the only choice left is to disable it. I don't really want to do that because I like the idea of having an ir blaster, which is evidently pretty rare. If I do disable Peel, can I reable it, and how?

Find another IR blaster app and disable Peel.

A few years ago it was a usable app. Then it turned into a piece of adware after some updates, starting with the infamous one where it added a second adware lockscreen (with no indication that Peel was behind that). Just ditch the thing, honestly, it's beyond redemption.

What's a good one instead? Also, I don't see any way to remove it. Would the phone have to be rooted? The only one I ever have rooted was a Kyocera Rise, about four years ago, and that took days. This S5 is on 6.0.1. It's a SAMSUNG-SM-G900V.

There's a few IR blaster apps in the Play Store. But quite frankly ones I've tried seem to be rather crummy and/or are very limited. I don't think there's so much interest in developing them now, because very few phones these days have an IR Blaster in them.

My Huawei Mate 10 does have an IR blaster, but I'm using Smart Controller, which comes with the phone as a stock app. Which can control TVs, STBs, DVD players, projectors, air conditioners, and digital cameras.
