Help Android Auto Blank Screen

Hi guys,

I am using a Pixel phone with my new after-market head unit for my car that has both Apple Carplay and Android Auto enabled. Apple
Carplay works fine on my friends phone but what I really want (and the whole reason why I got it) was to use it with my Pixel. Whenever I plug in my Pixel via USB the car screen turns blank and shows nothing. My Pixel recognizes that it is connected because it gives me USB options but is only on charging mode. I have USB Debugging enabled and whenever I try to change it to "File Transfer (MTP)" it automatically reverts back to charging only.

I know the USB cable works because I can change it to MTP and exchange data files on my PC with the same cable. I have tried disabling Bluetooth and connecting, I have turned on air plane mode, I have tried going into Dev Settings and change the default Configuration to "MTP" but that changes still to charging every time I plug it into my head unit.

Please help!

My Pixel 2XL would not connect to Android Auto in 3 different vehicles for well over 6 months and nothing I did resolved the issue. Only after receiving the 9.0 OS update was I able to re-sync and launch Android Auto in all vehicles. I did have to 'forget' the pairing with each head unit to get things working completely. Lastly, one aftermarket head unit did require a firmware update that was readily available for download.
