Help If I buy the G4 from Verizon can I take to AT&T?

Probably not, although LTE is a standard, the carriers have different frequency bands that they operate in. You may be able to see if you can get a frequency plan from both to compare, although that might be hard. LG G4 for Sprint makes it available. Additionally if you were in a 3G zone, the phone would not work. Verizon uses CDMA while ATT uses GSM.

Your best bet is to ask ATT.

Looks like you'll have 2G & 4G LTE,but,it's best to check things out w/both carriers & ask around in our VZW forum:

Since VZW's 3G is a different beast altogether,you're not gonna get AT&T's 3G w/this phone.
Sooooo, you'll wanna make sure the areas you'll be using this phone most often has good AT&T 4G LTE Coverage.

That's not entirely true.

Most if not all of the high end Verizon phones include GSM radios.

Find the sub-model number for the phone you're looking at here -

http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_g4-6901.php

When asked, plug it in here -

http://www.willmyphonework.net/

And that will give your answer.

If yes, search our forums for taking a Verizon phone to AT&T, lots of people have done it, and you'll find the sim/APN advice you're probably going to need.

Most if not all of Verizon phones are locked down to CDMA and even have a hard time
transitioning to Sprint's CDMA network unless you jump through massive hoops.

As I said, most all of the Verizon high end phones include easily accessible GSM radios.

Sprint and Verizon are both CDMA but on separate frequencies using separate PRL tower data - and yes, the phone id has to be recognized by the carriers and both Verizon and Sprint have policies to not recognize each others phones for anything besides roaming.

But the transition to GSM on phones with complete radio sets from Verizon is fairly trivial - they're not locked at all - and people switch easily from Verizon to AT&T and T-Mobile with compatible phones easily and often enough. Our forums have a number of APN assistance threads with full success.

I see this thread is 3 years old but perhaps someone will still see my post and help me. I have an LG G4 bought and paid for from Verizon a couple years ago. I recently switched to T-Mobile and even tho T-Mobile told me the LG G4 would work, put their sim card in it, sold me a plan and sent me on my way, the phone didn't work. When I complained I could not use wifi calling (which out here in the sticks is a must) they said to contact Verizon to unlock the phone. I did that and Verizon said it was not locked. T-Mobile said oh well, just buy a new phone from us because my money tree produced so well this year. (not)
So, I ended up buying a new phone. It works.
I would like to give my LG G4 to my 11 yr. old granddaughter but her mom has AT&T. I googled: 'Can I use a Verizon LG G4 on AT&T?' and led me to this site and thread.
I did the check on the links provided and came up with this. (attached pic) It does not work on 2 g. and looks Iffy on 4g. In short, doesn't look hopeful.
My question is - Will a "rooted" phone be able to work with any provider? I have watched videos on how to root a 4G G4. I'm far from techy but I'd be willing to try to do it to help make my granddaughter's Christmas better.
There is no warranty to void so no harm no foul there. I made payments to Verizon for 2 years for this phone to own it but it sure doesn't seem that I really do own it if I'm tied to them to use it properly.

^^^that's the big sticking point. T-Mo and AT&T (and all their MVNOs) use different technology than VZW and Sprint (and all their MVNOs). These different technologies use different physical hardware, so going the root method won't help. :(
