Can no longer file transfer from my windows PC

For years with my Note4, then my Note5, I used Samsung's PC app called Smart Switch to USB-connect to my phone. Initially, it gave me a choice which included "File Transfer" and later, it simply defaulted to that function. And "CELL PHONE" would pop up in Windows 10 File Explorer. I could copy/paste to and from the phone's memory. All of a sudden, this functionality has disappeared! All I get on the phone is "Charging." I don't know if I accidentally changed a setting or if an Android update changed this. I do keep the phone up to date with all Android updates.

If there was an update it might have set it back to default which is "charge only". When you plug in the phone, pull down the notification and tap USB settings or options or connections or whatever it says and see if you have an MTP option. Some manufacturers let you remember that setting, but others make you do this each time you plug it in.

If you don't have the option any more, it could be your cable went bad ... they do that sometimes. Or, if it's not the cable, it could be a worn out or dirty charging port on your phone.
