Help 2.1 Problems - Issues - Quirks

Anybody else getting worse battery life with 2.1 than with 1.5? I set all my settings exactly as they were when I was running 1.5, however, battery life is significantly less impressive.....

I had the same problem after upgrading and found that my phone wasn't sleeping. The folks over at the HTC Incredible forum figured out that, at least for a few of us, Facebook for HTC Sense was keeping the phone awake 100% of the time. Signed out of Facebook for HTC Sense under Accounts & Sync and my phone is once again sleeping and the battery life is much improved.

Hope this helps.

I just want my damn phone to be damn phone again!! Missing incoming calls is a real pain in the ass. Maybe it is time to contact sprint or htc to see what they say. I really doubt i will get any answers.

I actually emailed both of them earlier today & haven't gotten a response yet from either. Shocking, I know! Somewhere in this discussion I put a copy of the email I sent. I'll update if/when I hear something.

Hrmm... I just tested mine and a single contact custom ringtone worked fine. Sorry, I don't have any answers for why it's not working for you.

Not to be a downer, but it seems like nobody likes 2.1 around here.... Everybody wanted 2.1, then we got it and it doesn't work the way it should.... My rooted 2.1 is and has been great from moment one. Why can't sprint/htc fix all this crap?

Hard to sell new phones if everyone was happy with the one they had, isn't it?

Ooops, sorry, was that too cynical?

I like 2.1, all in all. It's not perfect, but then I never expected it to be. The problem came from the expectations, I think. I noticed it running up to the release. For some reason, a lot of people got it into their heads that 2.1 was going to fix every problem that they had with 1.5 and/or their phone.

But, 2.1 was a new OS release, not a patch or a bug fix. It was as much about new features, OS capbilities, enhancements, if not more, as much as it was about fixing any problems. 2.1 was never intended to fix the problems people were having with their Hero's. It was to lay the foundation of support for the next go round of phones, the EVOs and the Incredibles.

But people got expectations, and those expectations weren't realized. People who had problems still have problems. People who were happy with 1.5, but were excited about new "features" were disappointed that things weren't spectacular. So, basically, it's business as usual.

I think it's always going to be like this. New releases are for new phones, and there will always be something better, since by the time the new release comes out, the phone you have won't be new anymore. The only way to be happy is to lower your expectations. I know that sounds worse than it is, but I'm happy with the Hero & 2.1. It does more than any other phone I've ever had, and the technology is freaking amazing.

Seriously, if someone had told you in 2005 that you'd be holding something like the Hero in your hand in 5 years, and that you could afford to buy it, you'd have called them crazy. And yet, here we are now complaining about it.

Maybe it's an old guy thing, but seriously, this phone is amazing. It's just that our expectations are so high, and new sh*t comes out so fast, we're bound to be disappointed. That's too bad, really.

@dsavage I completely agree with your thinking but I think most of the complaints aren't so much about the lack of fixes for old problems but the large number of new problems. Things that worked fine before the update are no longer working. Even the most basic cell phone features aren't working properly. It's extremely frustrating to be moving backwards when we're supposed to be moving forward! :)

I guess my take is just Android is still very new. I understood that when I got my phone so really have NO expectations. I love it for what it is and what I expect it will become. But I don't expect to be free of issues for still quite some time.

if I wanted "easy", I would have gotten an iPhone. But I am not willing to lock myself into what Steve Jobs considers the "right" way. So I expect the growing pains and minor (and not so minor) hassles that come with using Android. But the Android community just rocks, some folks just doing amazing things with it, and know that, eventually, most problems will be fixed. Fixes may not even come from Google, HTC, or Sprint. THAT is why I have Android.

Three issues, two minor and one kinda major. I'll try my best to explain:

1. I can't seem to figure out how to choose two different notification sounds for when receiving texts and email. They both have the same notification sound, and it's annoying. For texts I usually check my phone right away, but for emails I tend to ignore them till I get a chance to look at them.

2. I can't find the option to turn off vibration while typing.

3. Contacts. When I click on 'People', all I see is Me. So I played around with the options, and got my old list back (this is after restoring), however, the only way to view my old contacts is to hit Menu > View > and check Google (& Show auto Gmail contacts), not Phone. I think I'd rather have my Gmail contacts and Phone contacts seperate, but checking "Only contacts with phone number" will do for now. Also, lets say I do have Phone checked from the View menu, and I try to add a contact, it gets added to the Gmail list, not the Phone list. Glitch?

Another issue with my contacts is linking them to their Facebook profiles. When I did that on 1.5, it was pretty awesome. If a person whom I didn't have a pic for calls me, their Facebook profile picture shows up. Now, lets say I have a friend, John, and his phone number is 123-456-7890. However, on Facebook, John has his number as 1-800-JOHN-IS-A-PLAYA as a joke, guess what happens when you link his Facebook profile to the contact? His number on MY PHONE changes from the legitimate 123-456-7890 to 1-800-JOHN-IS-A-PLAYA. Yup, that's right, I do get his Facebook profile picture, but I also get his fake number too. And what's worse is if a person doesn't have their number on Facebook, and I link them to my contacts, it removes their phone number.

Is there a way to link them without the FACEBOOK NUMBER replacing the phone number I already have on the phone?

Sorry if any of these questions have been asked, just didn't want to read 4 pages worth of posts. Thanks in advance for your help!

Maybe there's a way to revert back to 1.5 ?
New to all this. All I know is that I keep getting notifications about my Insurance bill every 30 minutes? WTF? I don't even have my personal ISP email on this phone.
I do not even check my personal ISP email from this phone. All I have is a gmail account for this phone.
How the heck did Google/Sprint/HTC figure that crap out?
Snooping huh?
Give me back control of my phone........... POinTX

My phone has a problem with performing it's most basic function...being a phone.

1. When I call my mom using my contacts I always have to hang up and call her back because it sounds like Darth Vader has taken over my phone (and I'm the only person she has that problem with).

2. When I select "Call" the phone takes me immediately back to the home screen and a minute later it might finally call that person. Sometimes if it takes too long I will go back and try to call that person again and it will connect...however in the middle of my call it will put the person on hold and then call them again.

3. If I'm on the internet when my phone rings the lights will start flashing and it will not show me who is calling.

4. My peeling "End" button will not end the phone call if I press it once...I have to press it multiple times for the call to actually end (after all it is pretty unsafe to look down to unlock the screen and then select "End Call" if I'm driving down the interstate).

5. I'm really tired of the phone ringing 1x on my end before going to voicemail - because the person calling me has already sat through several rings.

While I hate having everyone's facebook contact info show up in my call log I know that lots of other phones have that feature so I will suck it up and deal with it.

5. I'm really tired of the phone ringing 1x on my end before going to voicemail - because the person calling me has already sat through several rings.

This one you can fix by editing the Slot Index number to Zero, worked for me, here is the process pasted below, as posted by another member, hope it works for you, good luck

* Call Sprint

* Ask for "Advanced Technical Service"

* Explain to them that you would like to change your Slot Index Cycle from '2' to either '1' or '0'

* Go to the phone dialpad and type in ##3282#

* After you hit the last '#' symbol, it's going to say "initializing"

* Next, it's going to want to know if you want to go into "view mode" or "edit mode"

Next steps require here the help of Sprint Support:

* Select "edit mode"

* It asks for a password

* Enter MSL number (must get from the Sprint representative)

* Go to the "Advance" tab in the "edit mode"

* Scroll down to Slot Index Cycle (it's going to be set to '2)

* Tap it and change it to '0'

* Once back in the "edit menu" hit the hard button menu button (next to the trackball) to bring up the save option to save your new settings

* This will save and reboot the phone

The only thing you need from the Sprint Rep when you call, is your MSL number, but you have to have them help you through the steps, because they won't just give you your MSL number if you ask for it.

Change Roaming Alert (step described above)
