I've been with Boost one month. I've posted quite a bit on various problems. I had slim to none in the data coverage. Hotspot no better of course.
I broke down yesterday & bought an Alcatel hotspot from T-Mobile. Boost not allowing new SIM (separate phone#). T-Mobile telling me to insert new SIM. Help. Thank you

It's sound as if you stated you purchased a separate hotspot device from T-Mobile if thats correct?
My question would be why didn't you just purchase the hotspot from Boost Mobile and use your device for your hotspot needs for a few dollars more?
Unless you needed that hotspot to run your current device off of you got from Boost Mobile?

Those external hotspots usually come with a simcard, else they wouldn't work at all.. I still have a Boost Mobile hotspot which is decently fast but they stopped transmitting data after about 10GB and cost a monthly fee equal to an unlimited data phone (about $50/mo). For me, $50/mo for only 10GB is unacceptable for any Carrier since a phone gets like 35GB data + Phone calls for the same price.. If you can get a Moto E4 "perry" or Moto E4 Plus "owens" (NON VZW device, of course), you will have many Carrier options since we recently learned a few new things we can do with them

Im sorry. Still struggling. I assumed I wouldn't get coverage from Boost Hotspot since I've had spotty (generous term) coverage from day one.
I worked as an accountant & then did 10 years as a plant sales rep for plant farms that service Home Depot, both I think I excelled at. But I'm not a phone expert. I mistakenly relied on the representatives who I dealt with. Big Mistake.

Hell at 61 yrs old and a head as hard as a rock I've figured out alot of the carrier's flaws. Bottom line, I have a tin roof, it's not happening and I should not have left Verizon. I am currently in negotiations with their 'Winback' Dept. Fingers Crossed

Oh goodness.. good luck with that. I was approached by VZW, offered a new Galaxy S9 to switch Carriers & told them they couldn't offer me anything I wanted. They asked me what I needed/wanted and I told them "Custom ROMs.." so I can make calls when everyone else was down. They looked confused so I tried explaining. They were totally lost so I laughed and left.. no sale today. When the hurricanes hit and took cell towers down I was the only one making calls and texts when no one else could. My family got mad and asked "WTF" and I told them about my phone & the custom ROMs.. now half my family have phones I can build customs for and update at will. The one member who switched to VZW instead, is mad at himself everyday while I was making calls/texts all day long. Also, Sprint/Boost is still holding onto the lower spectrum bands that used to be for IDEN network.. you remember Nextel having service everywhere that other carriers didn't? It's because the lower spectrum goes thru walls & materials better and Sprint is supposedly gonna repurpose that band for 5G if they don't get bought out by T-Mo..

The key to that is to do it by phone. The people in the stores are no better than a used car salesman. And that's just the truth in my opinion .

You'll be surprised on how many people say that some no us here in AF should have been phone technicians for some of these major cell phone companies. Because from my experience neither of them I've encounter don't have a clue on how Android devices really works.
