This is an old but very prevalent situation about, Edward Joseph Snowden a former Central Intelligence Agency employee, and former contractor for the United States government who copied and leaked highly classified information from the National Security Agency in 2013.

Just curious In your Personal not Governmental opinion, do you see him as a friend or Foe to the people?

I ponder the thought of some high level or mediocre level perverted government employee having access to your childs baby cam somewhere eating Pizza while watching your children undress while these entities are somewhere in some dim lit government facility watching your family all because of a few upper brass deemed it necessary to do so all in the name of National Security. Where does this begin and where does it end. I tell my wife all the time to put something on before doing live video chat with her parents because no one knows what's lurking with some back door program the top 5 ISP gave these government entities free rein to access any particular individual internet feed as they see fit. Yes that thought gives me the heebie-jeebies and who knows what other personal information just so happen to find its way out of that facility that they're not telling you about. One you wasn't supposed to know that they was watching you from the beginning. Hmmm

friend.. because

it was NOT to make money.. but to expose an issue he thought was important to the public safety.

I think there should be an law to protect such incidents.
if a gov employee sees that the gov is doing .. A LOT of HARM to the pubic for it's self-interest.
then it needs to be exposed.

there also needs to be a high level of proof and harm.

because there might be some thing the "1 individual" is missing from the bigger picture.
that the info might do more last harm.

yes.. i know that might be a difficult thing ...to watch or explain.. and safeguard.
but we cant have national secrets spilled willy nilly either

MAGA , My sympathies goes out to Donald Trump and his family on this Witch Hunt thats a foot. I guess these same entities will throw whatever they could conjure up against the wall to see what sticks because they can't accept democracy at its finest.

I applaud your OP and input but PLZ don't turn this into another Trump thread, Lol..

playing devil's advocate.....

if there was a computer software.. listening in on all communication traffic.. with NO bias or malice.
for key words and or phrases... and only in high frequencies... "potential threat"
only keeping those flagged files recorded..deleting the rest.
only then forwarding it to humans for review.

and if this was able to show real evidence that it helped to find / stop terrorist plans.
and in 2017.. it was able to find 3 .. events and help stop it ...
(again this is ONLY my example: not facts)

if this was the case...
would you be OK with it?

my opinion .. at this time:
yes... i am ok with this.

Wow!

Thats the criminal justice system screwed then....

Good thing we don't have jury trials anymore..

Yes. Our criminal justice system actually is screwed to a degree despite testament that it's otherwise. We're supposed to be Innocent Until Proven Guilty over here but that's rarely applied correctly as it's actually assumed you're guilty until you prove beyond a reasonable doubt otherwise. I've been arrested twice for things I didn't do and proving I didn't do it was literally impossible while incarcerated. It wasn't until I got released, then I could go/see/talk to ppl (because I couldn't make phone calls to them while incarcerated either) who were there, get an attorney with certain requisites, etc. I had almost got put away, while looking at least 20+yrs. And this was just the second incident.. I began to learn trying harder to keep myself outta situations that give anyone a possibility of being able to point a finger, Lmao.

Which government did you work for @bcrichster?

I've rewired a CourtHouse before, that's about as close as ever got to working for Gov't. Lmao.

Literally removing cloth wrapped Knob + Post wiring, replacing with newer armored cable when I wasn't bending metal conduit and running new wire in that. ;) My eyes were literally bugging at some of the stuff in and around the walls / corners, had me laughing at the ingenuity of it. Our newer generations gonna miss out on very old school construction genius..

But yeah, no govt jobs. Just seemingly bad luck/decisions at the worst moments
