Hi, everyone.

These things are everywhere nowadays and range in price from the teens (direct from China on ebay) to $300 and beyond. With that much range and proliferation I thought it might be useful to have a thread where we collect actual user information and compare what we are using (and would recommend) and also tell folks what to avoid.

Please include things like:
  • Realistic listening time *and* recharge time
  • Durability
  • Fit and comfort: how do they feel? Do they stay in place? After two hours do you want to throw them away?
  • Sound quality across the frequency range
  • Microphone quality (if equipped) - if you use them for calls, do your callers hate you?
  • Feature integration with SmartPhone: what features do they have, what is missing?
  • Convenience in daily use: are they a pain to connect to the charging source, are their buttons hard to manipulate, do they lose pairing, etc.
  • Brand, model no/name, typical price, and a link to order if you don't mind

Though a bit on the pricey side, I use these Bose wireless buds.

They store as well as charge in a nice hard case that connects micro usb to charge. My typical day will see a charge last from eight AM till noon. I then remove them and put them in the charging case. At one PM I'll once again wear them until four. Again they rest and charge on my way home from job #one and then pressed into service until eight for job #2. Will they last longer on a charge, I can't say. I've never had the need to try. They are advertised to have three charges stored in the carrying case. They are comfortable to wear and I've experienced no problems of them staying in. There is a feature that allows you to find a bud if it should become dislodged. A map as well as an audible tone from the missing bud to help aid in it's recovery. The sound might be a bit on the base side of the spectrum for some but I have always liked base. The quality or clarity of sound is amazing. The control buttons are on the right earbud and seem easily enough accessed for changing volume or answering a call. Calls are only heard though the right earbud FYI. I've not found that to be a problem and everyone, when asked, speak of the quality of conversation to be outstanding. BT range is around fifty feet from the source. Though I carry my phone (the source) while I'm mowing, I centrally locate and leave my phone during my carpenter work and very rarely have them drop connection. I think they are selling for around $200 today but I paid more when I purchased. If for some reason I had to replace my Bose, I'd be happy to pay that price again. I've streamed tunes daily for years and this set is by far the best product for me that I've found.

The next to the last in the long line of headsets I've used I'll give a positive revue though they are not cheap either. (around a hundred bucks) Power Beats by Dre are pretty decent buds. They are wired together and BT from the source. The sound they produced was very good but I found the controls that are located along the connecting wire a bit cumbersome. They are located along the wire but close to the left ear bud. Perhaps the controls that are designed to be use by the left had and me being right handed made them difficult to find and operate. One way or another, it was the controls that put me off on these decent buds. I keep them as a spare but they were almost new when I retired them and bought the Bose.

I went through many sets of cheap over the ear and behind the head BT stereo headsets before trying the bud route. After trying a few different brands I found one that worked well for me. They were branded Rockfish and sold through BestBuy. I liked them because they could easily be removed and hung around the neck so you could converse with someone.
They were in that $30 - $40 range and when they developed a problem I just tossed them and bought another set. Sadly, BestBuy quit selling them. Then to my surprise, they were rebranded something or another and then again sold exclusively through BestBuy. For a cheap set.. they are decent. If you don't mind over the ear instead of buds and after a fairly economical set, I recommend these.

I still have a pair in my truck but I no longer have the packaging and they have no name on them. They look just like the pic though if that helps. I've never had a pair quit me. After a year or so of daily use they would not hold a charge long enough for my work day. They would likely last a lifetime if only used during a morning and evening commute. The sound they produced was not Bose quality and over the ear lends it self to allowing a certain amount of ambient nose interference. However, they did not distort at loud volume levels which allowed me to use them and still enjoy music over the drone of my saws or my mowers.

I wear a hat when working. I've never tried any over the head earphones for that reason. There are likely many decent buying options if it doesn't matter to you if it's behind the head or simply buds with or without a connecting wire.

Best of luck in your shopping.

I've got the Bose model before this model, and I love it except for the time last. It's suppose to give me 6 hours of use on a full charge and I just about get a little over 3 hours. Other then that they are great and yes pricey. I also want to get another set that will definitely give me more then 3 hours of listening, and one that has been tested and proven to do so. So any suggestions on that would be great, or I might simply go back to the wired version for TV viewing. I use then late at night to not wake up the wife.

I also bought a similar set of separate BT ear buds, that I'm not crazy with, they were cheap, but you have to pair them with each other every-time you turn them on separately. battery life is also not great.

I also gave my Bose Ear Buds a break, that I use for watching TV, makes the wife happy at night, LOL I would only get about 3 to 3 1/2 hours of play time with them before having to recharge them again, which was driving me crazy for $150 BT ear buds. So I researched and found Treblab XLR 100 or 500 which says you get around 9 Hours of play time. I received them last week, they are not that pretty and look a little bulky, but let me tell you they are comfortable and lightweight, barely know I have them on my ears. Since I use them only for TV, I don't care. So far they are awesome, and I have gone over 4 hours already with no issue and they also connect right away as soon as I turn them on, not like my Bose which I would have to turn on 2 or 3 times at times to connect. For under $30 I am very impressed and would definitely recommend them. If I have any issues with them down the rooad I'll report back.
