Help smiley faces ( emoji) not working

Messenger app - open messenger, tap t

hree dots top right - tap settings - tap advanced at bottom of view - turn off "simple characters only" - voila problem solved.

BE CAREFUL with changing the SMS encoding method to 'auto' if you have a UK carrier (and other countries, for all I know)!

The reason is, your phone may send SMS with emojis as multimedia messages which in the UK are charged at up to 40p per message. I got caught out like this a couple of times. One poor fool on TV the other night got a bill for £900 in one month!!

Thank you - so easy when you know how. But been bugging me for ages. Everyone can get santa emojis on their christmas messages now!

So I was having the same issue not being able to send emojis how I resolved my issue was by going directly in messaging app selecting the three dots on the right hand side. From there I selected settings. Select on advanced sms/mms settings and I scrolled to the bottom where the simple characters only was turned on I turned it off and it fixed my issue
