Bluetooth audio controls

Recently got the note 9 and i'm having issues with my the bluetooth controls on my car. Before, my galaxy s7 would be connected to my car via bluetooth while using google play music. If I didn't like the song, I could hit the up arrow on my steering wheel and it would skip to the next track. On my note 9, that function does not work even though it's playing music via bluetooth. When I first got the note 9, it was on oreo, but my phone updated to pie and it still doesn't work. ANY IDEAS???

factory reset? unpair/re-pair perhaps? try a different music app? im using google music, amazon music, poweramp.

im still having the same good experience as i did prior to pie, so its not anything wrong with pie.

you can also go to your car manufacturer website and see if they list any issues with android pie. some car sites will have this info...

Not willing to do a factory reset to see if that works. I can deal with the trouble to avoid that. I'm stuck using google play music because my 4000+ songs are on there for me to stream. The controls wouldn't work on oreo or pie. I was hoping when my phone updated to pie the problem would be fixed but it's not. It's odd that my old phone galaxy s7 worked perfect with the same app and controls. Another issue I discovered is my phone won't start playback automatically. Example I'm listening to music via bluetooth in my car. I get out, go inside a store, come back to my car and the music doesn't start back. On my s7 it would reconnect and start playing. I have the option selected in setting to let devices to start playback but it doesn't work on google play music. Thanks for the info

Factory reset would at least let you know if its the phone or the head unit. I totally understand why you dont want to do it, but its a step that would give you answers.

My phones are galaxy note 9s. The concern about your phone not playing back automatically is due to android stopping the resources that app uses. If the app is not persistent in memory android will revoke its persistence. This happens to me when i use the amazon music app. Pandora does not do this, nor does poweramp. Those have both stayed in memory and would play right up just as you are wanting, so my opinion (since I’m not an android dev) is that its android doing this (memory management) rather than samsung or your headunit..
