Ethernet problem gig speed

So I bought a Cat 7 50 foot ethernet cable and a usbc to ethernet adapter for my note 9 thinking this will finally bring the speed up dramatically. Unfortunately its hit and miss I get these readings below . Am I doing this wrong ?? cause in the picture below it shows the i need to set up the ethernet connection even tho it is . And when I go into this it says turn off the ethernet connection. I did purchase a cheap 20 dollar cat 7 flat ethernet cable.

Should I buy a cat 8 cable for more money and that may solve it or am I connecting this up wrong ?

I have ran a my modem test and it says that the speeds should be 1000mbs

Did you notice the download speeds are slower than your upload speeds? That should be a clue...

Check your modem / router settings, as it may be throttling the download speeds.

Do you mean you speed tested your router and ethernet cable connected to a computer and got a 1000mbs result? If not, what happens when you do?

I tested connecting my phone to an ethernet cable and don't get any options or settings to change, it connects automatically (I have a different phone).

When you connect does it work automatically also? If so then that's probably a just a notification to let you make changes if needed.

Tentatively I'd ignore that Ethernet cable as a source to your problem. A good Cat 7 should be able to handle 10GBs or faster, essentially ten times what a 1GB broadband connection will be providing.

I'd also rule out your Note 9 itself as the part of the problem. A Note 9 has a USB-type C port that supports USB ver. 3.1:

Given that the USB port is the only way for a physical network connection, and with v3.1 being theoretically able to handle 10Gbps, that leaves the OTG adapter as a potential source of the bottleneck.
What's the model I.D. of your OTG adapter? Is it rated for 1GB connectivity?
i.e. -- If it's supporting only USB v. 2 its throughput is rated at 480Mbps.

"should be 1000mbs", which is actually the theoretical maximum for one gigabit ethernet. And the figures you posted looks like what you might see for real world high speed Internet from your ISP. I presume that's what you was measuring? So no, I don't think that changing from a CAT-7 to a CAT-8 cable will make any difference.

Agreed.

The cable will only increase speed between the router and the phone. So what is that app testing the connection to? If it's the speed of upload/download from a remote server then unless you have an extremely fast service you will be limited by the WAN speed to the server rather than the LAN speed within your home, and replacing a fast wireless LAN with a faster wired LAN will make no difference to your phone's internet connection speed.

Unless you can receive higher speeds on your computer (not theoretically, but actual download speeds) I see no reason to believe that different cables or even adapters will make any difference.
