How do I get rid of a PIN?

I have a Samsung S9 and for some reason it started requiring a PIN to wake it up every time the screen goes blank. I did set a PIN but then decided I don't like it. It never used to do this but I suspect it was a recent upgrade....maybe. At any rate, I find this new PIN thing irritating. I've tried all the settings without success. The online help manual says I can go into Settings > Security > Screen Lock Type and choose from a pull-down menu, but the only thing in the pull-down list is PIN!

Can anyone help, please? Thanks.

You'll need to go to settings, security, and type in your pin, then choose none.

Sorry to be thick but mine doesn't have that. When I click settings, I can get "Lock Screen", "Biometrics and Security", and "Device care" -- that all have some kind of Security but can't find anywhere to just type my PIN and choose None. If I choose Lock Screen, I see "Screen Lock Type" and that does ask for my PIN, but it never offers me any choice like None.

Thanks for your help, however. If you can think of anything else, please let me know.

Samsung always rearrange menus from the android norm. Screen lock sounds like the closest to Danny's suggestion, though on my Pixel (running android 9) "none" is one of the options. I suppose it is possible that Samsung have decided that you must have some sort of security...

What about biometrics though? Do you have a fingerprint set up? Normally a PIN is required as a backup to that. Can you use fingerprint rather than PIN? I'd as whether removing fingerprint allows you to remove the PIN but if you do have one you probably don't want to remove it.

To reduce the irritation you could try changing your screen timeout settings. There should be an option to control how long the screen should be off before it locks, so you should at least be able to tell it to not bother you unless the screen has been off for 10 (or 30) minutes.

Well, under Secure Startup I have "Do Not Require" set. Under Settings > Other Pin Windows, set to OFF. Under Biometrics and Security, it shows 1 April 2019. Under Lock Screen > Lock Screen Type, it shows PIN and nothing else. Under Secure Lock Setting, everything is OFF. I've now managed to set the timeout to 30 minutes and it requires a PIN, but not the OK button. Small mercies! I guess I have to live with it. At least if anyone tries to steal it, they'd have to deal with the PIN too, so it can't be all bad.

Thanks for the advice.
