Can i just say Samsung has been absolutely killing it for the last few years?

Honestly tho. I don't mean to make this post sound like an advertisement or something but I am so incredibly happy with the way Samsung is going right now.

The galaxy S6 was pretty rough, quite literally. Then the S7 was quite good, and the Note 7, while obviously that didn't go over it was still an incredible phone back then. But then the S8 came out and man, ever since Samsung has done nothing but improve and perfect.

- They have had THE best hardware for every year since the S8, at least in my opinion

- They seem to listen to their consumers, having kept the headphone jack and sd-card to this day, among other things...

- ...like having greatly improved their software. One UI is better than stock in a lot of ways and lag is rarely an issue anymore

- They are still one of thge leaders in terms of innovation with tons of crazy features and now folding phones soon! How many things has Samsung had 'first' so far??

- They have a lot of options, with the Note series and their budget phones all having improved a lot too!

Honestly tho. I have a Note 9 now and am incredibly happy with it. I'm really glad Samsung seems to continue pushing their competitors forward. Even if you don't like Samsung you have to appreciate what they have pushed others to do. Sure their phones can be a bit expensive but for me that's really not a big deal because of the very generous price drops after a few months.

I really don't want to sound like a shill but thank you Samsung! I hope you keep doing what you're doing.

Well... Personally I'm not a Samsung Fan... and when i'm shopping for a new phone... they're normally in the mix. but never quite make it to the top...

BUT
My wife loves them. And they are a solid low, low risk, reliable, feature packed range of phones that are a good option for anyone.

I'm in an odd sector of the market.. I liked Psion, HD DVD, Palm, Windows Mobile, Sega, Wileyfox, Pebble

So.... anyone targeting me as a customer is going to have a tough time.

Samsung however seem to make devices that my wife likes... and that is a much better market to be in.

So, without a doubt, I agree.. Samsung ARE killing it

sorry guys, i agree that Samsung may not be as innovating as some companies, i must say that at least their build quality has to be right up there with apple. every time i go and upgrade something, whether it is a phone, tv, computer, or even a washer and dryer, time and time again i always pick Samsung. I also have two Samsung Gear watches and an lg urbane. i always wear the latest gear watch instead of the urbane.

i keep saying that my next phone will not be samsung, but i would not hold my breath on that. right now im really please with my note 8 and depending on cost and all might wait for the note 10 to come out....but we will see.

I have a nagging feeling I'm wrong about this, but I think it was a Samsung washer and dryer that gave my cousin nothing but trouble. Expensive trouble.

She and I talk every weekend, so I'll get my facts straight then. Whatever brand it was, she swore it off for anything in the future!

My son had serious troubles with his new Samsung refrigerator. A bad mother board that they had no replacement for. It was just beyond store return so he and his family lived out of coolers for a couple of months. Unacceptable!
With that said, I have had a Samsung S8+ and gear watch since release and have had zero problems with either. So solid are both devices that I haven't seriously considered replacing them... which is quite uncommon for me.

I lean toward LG but the S8+ was impressive to me. I used it heavily for camping trips, cruise, and vacations and it was a workhorse.

I do like the Notes (my last was a Note 2) so I just picked up a used Note 8 at a good price. But, I have had the LG V40 since November and that is a great phone.

Never owned an LG. If i was going to branch out, I might look into getting the Googles Pixel..... it depends though on what the note 10 will look like.

I previously said:

"I have a nagging feeling I'm wrong about this, but I think it was a Samsung washer and dryer that gave my cousin nothing but trouble. Expensive trouble."

and that I'd post back when the facts were straight. They're straight--and it was a Samsung washer/dryer set that caused huge, expensive problems for my cousin. They started falling apart soon after the warranty ended.

She swore off Samsung for future purchases; she replaced the washer and dryer with Maytag, and it's been smooth sailing thus far.

I've always had great luck with Maytag, too. My refrigerator is ≈15 years old and going strong...somebody knock on some wood for me please! :)

I liked everything they've done except for that wrap-around screen thing. It should not have been curved.
I couldn't agree more. It makes it near impossible to keep a protector on. After two years with a S8+ I've yet to discover the curved merits. I don't hate it... just don't see the reason for it.

I've always believed the reason is "marketing":

1) it looks different (though no longer unique: others have such phones too).
2) it allows them to claim the screens are bigger than they usefully are: Samsung will say "x.x inch screen", but that's the diagonal of the screen when rolled flat. But since the curved edges are less usable than the central part, your effective screen area is slightly smaller than the specs tell you it is.

Personally if I were to buy a Samsung right now it would be the s10e: sensible-sized phone and a flat screen. It's genuinely the only model in the s10 range that interests me at all.

Samsung ditched the Curve?
I have to pay more attention.
Not entirely. They've produced one S10 model that doesn't have it: the 2 larger and more expensive ones still do.

Reports that Galaxy Fold review units are breaking, some admittedly because people removed what looks like a film screen protector but turns out to be a vital protective layer, others just because they've developed faults after a day or so's normal use, will bear watching. If the retail units do the same they'll have a very expensive and embarrassing problem on their hands.
