Root for unlocked Pixel 2xl

sorry this is frustarting for you. it has been a while since i used adb and command prompts. i remember that it took me a while to understand the language and how frustrating it was.

so i will try to do this in chunks and l
That because you are in some kind of adb mode instead of fastboot, hence your adb devices returned with an alphanumeric code. You'll know your in bootloader/fastboot mode when the cmd 'fastboot devices' registers like 'adb devices' did..
.........this

also you need to complete the command. typing fastboot and nothing else will not yield anything.

it needs to be fastboot boot

then your path to where you have the twrp file

then your actual twrp .img file name will go next.

so it looks like u moved your folders around is that correct?

if so then it would be:
Code:
fastboot boot c:\user\danny\twrp.img

Go ahead and save yourself more hassle with M$ and just put SuperR's Mint4Kitchen on a USB drive "with persistence".. Run it liveboot style, it has adb & fastboot preinstalled, no ridiculous driver installation required.. Plus, Mint is very easy transition for Windows users, many many UI directory similarities and it doesn't need installation unless desired. As for terminal cmds.. Just right click in the folder ya have you files and start cmds. Plus, can always just remove USB and reboot back to normal M$ wares..

Yes, it's installed. From the twrp installer i installed Magisk-v18.1 zip, and twrp-pixel 2xl-installer-taimen-3.3.0-0.zip. ES File Explorer is not asking for root permissions, and root checker says root was not installed properly. I was going to flash a rom, but now i'd better wait to get permanent root, if i can.

Manually install MagiskManager.apk like a normal app.. Then reboot and run your Root Checker again
By the way, should i wipe the Dalvik cache?
Always wipe cache & dalvik after flashing stuff nowadays.. Prevents cached files from conflicting with new ones.

Flashing the factory image will get rid of TWRP and magisk. I personally find it easier to use the ota images, but that would require the extra steps of overwriting TWRP beforehand if you did a permanent I stall. That's the main reason I don't permanently install TWRP. Makes updating the phone faster and less complicated.
