I find it a little laughable about OSX not being innovative. After years of XP and the disaster called Vista, Microsoft FINALLY releases an OS (W7) that is worthy of being on a desktop. Before that.... utter crap and you know it.
Win 7 is a Johnnie-Come-Lately OS that is finally worthy of being compared to OSX .... and you are right, it does have some advantages that OSX doesn't have, I think features like Windows Activation, Windows Genuine Advantage, Antivirus, Ad-aware are features I wish OSX had.
If it comes down to $$$ then you have made your point. Congrats to you, you saved some money. Got news for you... not everyone is price driven, but since you are.. thats ok. Enjoy.
Whoa, whoa. Slow down there, big fella. OSX isn't the be-all-end-all. It never has been. It has lacked in many places. The reason you never needed virus protection wasn't because it was built in and the best ever, it was because people who write virii doesn't write them for 3% of the market. Windows XP was a very impressive piece of software, as was Windows 2000. It helped transition the ordinary desktop into something spectacular and helped get tons of people acclimated. Windows XP is part of the reason that the culture is thriving in the digital age, it helped fuel interest.
I've still got an old G3 that I used to love, and man I loved OS 9, too. But the truth is that Apple just isn't worth it. Again, I could build that same system for a fraction of the price. I've got legit copies of OSX and according to Apple, all I need is the appropriate parts to run it.
It's not all about price, some of it is on principle.
Dont knock the person that buys the Porsche when they have a different value than yours.
But you aren't in a Porsche. You're in the same damn thing I'm in, but you are limited to 2 different models, while I get 12. You get a couple more colors and a fruit decal... that's it.
Macs no longer have a niche and the super simple OS that has to be error checked and optimized after every update just isn't doing it anymore. Linux is actually turning heads these days and Windows has an offering that is amazing. We live in fortunate enough times to be able to debate these things, surely we can agree on that.
