So lets talk MP3/music/media players that are portable. Of course the age of MP3 is all but dead, yet I still have a gen 1 ipod nano running strong.

This device is perfect for running as it is light weight and easy to control and has a display.

Here is this thing, we all know music playback has changed massively over the last 5 years with streaming and downloading for offline play the master of all. I use this all of the time with my phone for use at work and in the car.

But i now want this functionality is a portable form similar to my nano. Use your phone I hear you say, no. I like BIG phones and they are not practical to have strapped to your arm!

So is there any portable media players out there that allow apps like Amazon Music/Play Music for offline playback? :thinking:

Does that mean it has to run Android, so it can install those apps? And not just use any generic MP3 player? Which are almost history now.

Sony still makes a couple of Walkmans I think.

No idea if they'll work with Amazon Music or whatever. Do they use MP3, or are they locked with some proprietary DRM?
Creative Labs stopped a while back now, and of course Apple no longer does iPods.

FWIW I'm very much old school, and still download MP3s(legally of course).

Thanks for the replies @mikedt and @PitCarver

No need for it to be android as an idevice that does not require me to plug it into iTunes is good by me.

The Sony devices are very old school and dont feature the apps required to download songs for offline play.

I am leaning towards an ipod touch atm. Just need to take a closer look tomorrow at the details, it does support Amazon Music downloads..

Ahh.. a bum bag @LV426 ? :oops::oops:

Both my tops and shorts feature phone pockets, but I found due to the type of breathable material they are made of the phone bounces around pulling on either my tops or shorts which drives me nuts!!

Out of interest which ear buds do you use @LV426 ? Do they stay in well? I have to use buds that almost lock internally within my lobes to keep them in place due to movement and sweat!!

Yes I mean a bum bag :) The one I use fits my phone snugly, and it doesn't bounce around at all, it's perfectly still. Plus I can fit my bike lock keys in it too.

The earbuds I use are these. You have to fiddle around to get the right position, but the over ear clips keep them in place, for me anyway.
