Where to buy an android phone?!

I know this might seem like a silly question, but where is the best place to buy an Android phone?

I've always usually got my phone from my network provider, but I might do it differently this time to save money in the long run. I know that if I would want an iPhone (which I don't!), I can go to Apple and buy one directly, but where can I go to get an Android phone like a Huawei P30 Pro for example?

Your best bet is Amazon. If you're in the USA and want a phone from a "popular" manufacturer like Motorola they sell their phones unlocked straight from their website. Huawei probably does this too but I'm not sure if they'll ship to the USA

Another good place to check out is Best Buy. Often times they'll have deals where if you activate the phone on a line on your current cell plan (so basically they just get you a new SIM card) you can get an unlocked phone for a pretty good discount. I got a brand new Android One Moto X4 for $99 through that. It's apparently the Project Fi variant, but it's totally unlocked for any network I want to put it on as long as the bands are compatible (and it works with the all of the big 4 here in the USA). Bootloader's also unlockable of course for mods

EDIT: Just checked, Huawei won't ship to the USA on their website. Of course I'm assuming you're from the USA. They will ship to Canada though so maybe if you've got a friend up there who can receive it tell them to hook you up

I bought my Huawei Mate 10 straight from the local "big box" electronics retailer. That does stock the Mate 30 Pro, as well as many other makes and models of Android phones.

Any reputable (stress that) retailer is good place to buy an Android phone, but an issue you need to keep in mind is you have to be sure to purchase a phone that's fully compatible with your chosen carrier. Every phone model has different internal radio chips that correspond with specific carriers, the issue being different cellular services rely on different types of cellular networks. Some phone models are able to support a wider range of different of carriers, some have dual-SIM slots so you can use two different carriers, and some are just locked to specific carrier. That's a bit of a generalization as there other variables too that make the whole situation even more of a mess but the bottom line is if there is a phone model you really, really like, it's not matter of just buying it, the phone has to work with your carrier.

Did Verizon ever work with Unlocked phones?

Depends where you are on the planet... Some carriers do sell unlocked phones... "We're so confident in our network, that we'll allow you to use someone else's... but you won't because ours is better"

Verizon has a particular requirement, in that phones need to support and be compatible with their CDMA network. Same with Sprint AFAIK.

The only other countries that have CDMA networks, are China and Japan.

If it helps, according to the OP's profile he's from Newfoundland (I'm assuming "he" from the username, though Glenn Close is evidence that this assumption may not be correct).

Therefore if anyone knows about the Canadian phone market their input might be particularly relevant.

Koodo seems to have a pretty good deal up here at the minute. C$720 for the P30 Pro with an Unlimited Mins & Texts//6GB Data, with a 12 month $10 off per month, making it an average of C$85 for 24 months. That seems to be pretty good for here.
