Since I’m having an issue with this math problem, I’m calling on anyone good with math skills :)

This may seem easy to some of you but not for me :)

I’ll try to explain this as best I can.

I submit work orders for work done on trucks through a 3rd party for approval. They approve my total amount, I do the work, they deposit the money in our bank account less a certain percentage.

I know the percentage, but let’s say I didn’t know it. How would I figure out the percentage?

For example:

Work order totals $607.67.

After work is done, they deposit $583.37 into our account.

What percentage did they just take (4%, 5%)?? What is the percentage amount (in dollars)? And, more importantly, what is the formula to figure that out????

In my mind, the formula would be:
607.67 - 607.67x = 583.37 ??

I used to know this but, ya know, you don’t use it, you lose it :D

Thanks

1 - (Amount paid / Invoice Amount) x 100 =discount %

1-($583.37 / $607.67) x 100 = 3.84%
Your formula calculates how much greater 607.67 is than 583.37 and is mathmatically correct, where the actual discount percent to apply to a purchase is four percent.

i will try ...

formula to get your pay: deposited payment / work estimate = x = your take home percentage.

formula to get their percentage: 1.0 - your take home percentage = y = their cut
Got to thinking about this..
583.37 / 607.67 = 0.96

1.0 - 0.96 = .04

Nice, that's easier than the guy who called me names :)
