HAVE JUST SPENT A WHOLE DAY, TRYING TO FIND OUT WHY MY S9 KEY PAD IS NOT RESPONDING WHEN I PRESS A NUMBER ON THE KEY PAD IN A CALL. 2 CALLS TO SAMSUNG CHAT LINE, 2 HOURS GONE. DROVE TO NEAREST SAMSUNG CENTRE IN MILTON KEYNES LIKE THE CHAT LINE, THEY EITHER DID NOT KNOW WHY OR DID NOT WANT TO TELL ME WHY.
IT APPEARS THAT THIS FACILITY HAS BEEN REMOVED, SO WHEN I NEED TO ACKNOWLEDGE A CALL FROM MY SPEECH DIALER ON MY ALARM SYSTEM BY SENDING A TONE FROM THE KEY PAD DOES NOT WORK. I AM UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING.
HAVING HAD EVERY UPDATE UP TO THE S9, & PAYING HEFTY INCREASES, FOR WHAT APPEARS TO BE WHAT SAMSUNG ARE DICTATING WHAT FACILITIES I SHOULD HAVE, RATHER THAN WHAT I WANT, I FEAR THE END OF THE ROAD IS HERE FOR SAMSUNG. TIME FOR A CHANGE.
I DO NOT EXPECT TO PAY MORE FOR LESS.
VERY ANNOYED

What about clearing the Phone app's cache, or even its data? The latter would lose any preferences, but contacts are owned by the Contacts Storage app so shouldn't lose those - I'd make sure they were syned or backed up first, of course.

I don't think the feature has been removed, this sounds like a glitch on this one phone (after all, almost any company you call has a call gate these days, if they have a phone number at all, and those rely on these tones, so nobody is going to remove that). That's why I'd start with the phone app (as that's what's misbehaving) and see whether there's some corrupted data there that's responsible.

Yes tried an S7, works as it always did.
Looked on the Verizon wireless site, it appears( probably in the US ) that you could do menu, settings, other call settings, to tap DTMF tones to select normal or long DRMF tones for the key pad.
Going through this, I find that this phone does not have that option.

Hello , missed your reply, sorry, please see latest reply given. Also on Samsung community site, seems I am not the only one with this problem.

I believe a factory reset should fix your issue as it sounds more of a software issue then hardware...... you just need to back everything up first.

Hi again, thank you for your advice & time. Phone had the latest update loaded yesterday.
This talk of back up of everything I am afraid is an alien language, not sure what to do, hence an hour in the Samsung store.

The phone app? I am trying to adjust through the settings on the phone.
My alarm panel triggers the speech dialer, which phone my mobile to inform me that the alarm has been activated, it follows a pre-recorded message with a tone, that I have to respond to with a tone response. This not only records that I have been informed, but prevents other numbers on the system being phoned.

A little bit of a workaround - get a Google voice number and use the hangouts dialer (all free courtesy of Google if you live in the US, not sure about outside US). you can still access your regular number via carrier through the Samsung dialer app ,and you can also access Google voice number via wifi on hangouts dialer (which has dtmf). that's more hassle than you should have to go through, but maybe it will meet your needs in a pinch... .

@RN3199 I know you posted this question a little over 13 months, but I just ran across it now (05/06/2021) by chance which doing a Google search to find out what the heck DTMF tones are and if I need to choose the "Normal" or "Long" option in my Phone app settings on my Samsung Galaxy S9 and my curiosity was piqued by your dilemma. It left me wondering... Were you ever able to resolve the issue?

His last activity on the forum was two years ago so it's unlikely he will respond.
If you have that setting in your phone (I don't) it should determine how long of a DTMF tone is sent when you press a keypad number during a call. Usually the "normal" setting should work but if you find a particular service or device doesn't respond properly to the tones then try the "long" setting.
