Help Dock area display issue

In the screenshots, please note the appearance of the area under the dock, and the status bar, too.

I like the old one better.

These are identical phones, Moto Z² Force Edition running 8.0.0.

Both are using ADW Launcher 1 EX--and their settings are identical.

I've looked through System Settings for anything even remotely related to display; everything's identical on both phones.

Any ideas on what else to check/adjust to get the look I want?

Nothing under display/home touch buttons/background? Should be some setting that allows a transparent display.
Do you mean in the launcher's settings or system's?

The launcher's settings are identical to the other phone's--in fact, I restored a backup from old to new; there are no differences.

Before returning the old phone, I did a side-by-side comparison of their system settings--anything possibly related to display: identical.

I can't honestly say that I compared EVERY setting, only those possibly display-related.

I dislike the way the navigation buttons look now, as they're hard for my old eyes to see easily. I really want the black background back.

That is really odd, I noticed that too on mine just recently.
Really? Now that's interesting.

Did your phone get a recent update? This one did. I don't mean a version upgrade--it's still 8.0.0.

Its "Android security patch level" is now dated February 1, 2019; the old one's was March(?) something, 2018. Could this be the culprit?

Only in March though, nothing special though, I have not checked it out though, I will try in the morning :)

Mystery solved! :D

There was an ADW update released on literally the day my new phone came--and it's the culprit. I happened to look at its Play Store page, and saw comments about it, so that's how 'I' solved the mystery.

I've contacted the developer; hopefully, others have done the same and a fix will appear quickly.

How funny is it that my new [identical to the old] phone would install the app the VERY DAY it got a buggy update? But since I didn't know that, I sat here, old and new phones side by side, shaking my head because their settings were identical. :)
