Every manufacturer can have a defective device. Yours may be one. I've setup 3 of the MXPE's (mine, the wife, and one for my son) and all but my son's is still purring along. His still works, but has an issue with using speakerphone when on a call. I do agree that quality has deteriorated, hence my latest device is the VS995.
As the title says... guides can't seem to make up their minds on what to press to enter recovery and get TWRP to boot.
