Things That Make You Feel Old

By the fact this year is the 40th anniversary of the release of Star Wars and I remember seeing it in the theater when it first came out.
You're two years off!

As I recall, Star Wars was released in 1977--which would make this year its 42nd anniversary.

Regardless, the fact that some of us are old enough to remember it, in all its breathtaking, theatrical awesomeness, makes me feel old but happy. :)

That's right I saw it during one of the re-releases of it. One of the first movies I remember and actually loved.

Learning that yesterday was the 50th anniversary of the iconic Beatles Abbey Road album cover being photographed.

Yesterday's newscasts showed throngs of people, young and old, congregating at the crosswalk, waiting for their turn--and blocking traffic--to cross that crosswalk. Beatles impersonators lined up in the correct order as they crossed.

They showed a clip of Sir Paul McCartney walking that crosswalk last year.

My cousin and I, who've been like sisters our whole lives, pondered what we would've been doing that day. We'd likely have been together, at one of our houses, playing in the California sun, swimming, giggling a lot, listening to Beatles albums...

50 years. Amazing.

Yesterday, being reminded that it was the 50th anniversary of Sharon Tate and her friends' murders by Charles Manson's 'family' members. And then, the next day, the murders of the LaBianca couple.

By the following day, after two consecutive nights of seemingly random murders, I remember feeling scared. Would they come to Pasadena [where we lived then]? No, my mom reassured me.

Many years later I found out that on that second night, they DID come to Pasadena, looking for their next victims. For whatever reason, after driving up and down various streets, perhaps mine, they left, heading to Los Feliz. It sent chills up my spine.

I still get chills down my spine, every other day when knowing, there has been a million serial killers waiting for me, down the road inside time frames... I often wonder how did I ever grow up in such fear, and still feel cheerful?
