Moto G7 Plus fingerprint security

Really pleased with my new dual SIM Moto G7 Plus although I have a question with regard to the fingerprint access.
When I activate the phone with my fingerprint it will then require my pin number before reaching the home screen, on my previous G5 Plus the fingerprint would take me to my home screen.
Is this an additional security measure or could it be setup without the pin number as well?
I have spent sometime trying!

Could you have locked your SIM card? That requires entering your PIN to use the phone.

On my Moto Z² Force Edition, running Oreo, the path to its setting is:

Settings | Security & Location | SIM card lock

Your path may vary slightly.

Thanks I thought that was my problem, but the SIM lock is off!
Might have to contact Motorola I think although it might be by design.

For anyone in a similar situation, I found the problem!
I was using an app to lock my phone from the screen and that app was upsetting everything.
Now using 'Screen Off' and everything is working fine.
