question about ethernet

i got an ethernet dongle and when i connect it to my phone or tablets the speed test is way slower. on my lg k20 it goes from 15 mbps wifi to 4 mbps ethernet dongle. on my tablets using ookla it goes from 12 mbps wifi to 5 mbps ethernet dongle. i got the dongle from ebay so is that my issue it is not a goo dongle? it does not have a need for outside power seems to get it from either the device or the network. when i plug it into the phone i don't see the flashing internal light flickering but if i connect the lan cable the light will flicker. i did a few youtubes researching this and none of them had power going to the dongle they plugged them into the phone or tablets and they claim faster speed with the dongle. so what might i be doing wrong if anything. i figure the tablets may be to old they had 4.4 and 5.1 but my phone is 8.0 i heard 6.0 was the point for this but was hoping the tables may just work. but the phone should work. thanks

This is just speculation but since it's not actually an Ethernet connection but rather Ethernet going through an older USB 2.x interface, there's a limitation involved. And it's not just a software issue (Android version), there's a hardware issue involved.
If you have any newer devices, try the same test with a USB 3.x or USB Type-C interface and see if that makes any difference. What's the exact model I.D. of the dongle you're using? That could be a factor also.

ok thanks the dongle i have is a gzcyc no. 9700 if that makes any sense to you. and it is a usb 2.0 dongle so that may be why. for the phone and the tablets may have to old of operating system. i will look to get a 3.0 dongle and see if that make any difference. this dongle came with a cd with some drivers on it but i have no idea what they could do for the phone or tablets. it has no readme on it so i may be a mistake. thanks very much for that idea.

Just note that using a USB 3.x dongle won't necessarily make any difference if your mobile device only has a USB 2.x port in it. If this is a USB 2.x issue, and that's still not the definitive answer to what the problem might be, it's not an older Android version issue, it's hardware. A newer version of Android cannot make a USB 2.x port into a USB 3.x port.
As for the CD with drivers, those are most likely for Windows. You're not going to be able to do anything with them for your Android devices anyway, manually installing device drivers is a Windows thing. With Android adding support for a new device typically involves installing a corresponding app.

thanks i knew that about the cd i just made mention of it. and i know i can't make a 2.0 usb into a 3.0 usb i have the 2.0 port in the phone and the phone supports 2.0 only. some of the youtubes are saying this can be done and they claim to be doing it but i'm now leaning towards these being scams. but if someone here says it can be done and proves it then i may have things to do to get it to work. again thanks for that help. it looks like i have more work to do yet if this is going to work. some are telling me i need a tablet that has 6.0 or above on it but being my phone has 7.0 i said 8.0 my mistake it has 7.0 and this dongle fails to work better i think it may be internal to the devices like your saying. thanks much.

i did some looking and discovered that i was not using an otg device. must be something to the otg device. so i will get one and try it to see. plus i need 6.0 to get it to work. so if it works on the phone then i will get a tablet and run my tinycam on the new tablet. thanks
